Subject: RE: Info rqd: Saddleworth (Yorks) area From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 22 Sep 04 - 07:30 AM Don Try dropping a PM to Alio, she lives in Greenfield and is the chairman of the Saddlworth Acoustic Folk Roots Festival (SAFRA)which is held on the 3rd weekend in July each year and is based in Uppermill. I think that there is still a difference between the two villages(although as Rabbit indicates because of expansion they are starting to merge) There is still clear land between the two and as such they are separate places Raggy |

Subject: RE: Info rqd: Saddleworth (Yorks) area From: Noreen Date: 23 Sep 04 - 05:20 PM Yorks?? No, it's in Lancashire! And this site (click) says that Greenfield is a village. |

Subject: RE: Info rqd: Saddleworth (Yorks) area From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 24 Sep 04 - 04:06 AM Noreen The second paragraph starts " Saddleworth is an area, an old Yorkshire Parish ..........." Now much as I like winding people up, even I have to admit that historically Saddleworth is part of Yorkshire, even if it is on the Lancashire side of the Pennines. Some little toe-rag down in Whitehall back in the 70's decided that he would alter more than a 1000 years of history and put it within the electoral of Oldham .. He even tried to tell me that I lived in "Greater Manchester" and not my beloved County Palatine of Lancashire, of course I choose not to believe him and a Friend (Ted Edwards) and I founded the Free Lancastrian Army, we had an Air Arm (Ted's hang glider) and a Fleet (my kayak)together with a transport division (Ted's Moggie 1000, ex GPO van) |

Subject: RE: Info rqd: Saddleworth (Yorks) area From: GUEST,Don Date: 24 Sep 04 - 11:56 PM Sue, Glad stuff got through. Ignore query on other thread. I based the tune in part, "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by Eric Bogle, an ex-Scot living here, which he in turn got from something else - and round it goes! Don't know if his song is known off-shore. The chorus is mine. Shall work out soon how to do a PM. And thanks for the info about Greenfield. Our family always thought the village had been flooded. Don |

I also met up with a group called poms from oz ( or however its spelt) we are trying to sort out about us doing a concert together as I do songs in sign language and they are doing one of their songs in auslan |
