For my liner notes:
What best describes Hayden Wood's song,"Brown Bird Singing"? Is it a tone poem/art song/drawing room ballad? It could hardly be called a pop song, but at the same time I'm sure Mr Woods wrote it with an eye to selling as many copies as he could.Suggestions/answers will be greatly appreciated.

Standard parlour ballad, though the term was a little old in 1922 when the song was written. Call it a pop song (it was) if you like; though that may confuse your less well-informed listeners. See also last month's thread on the same song: Brown Bird Singing

You'll get better search results if you spell Haydn Wood's name correctly, of course.
