We have just returned from Banbury Canalside Folk Festival.
A marvellous weekend.
Thank you and congratulations to all concerned.Everything was first class.Doesn't El Grecko write and sing terrific songs?

no self respecting folk singer should be without an El G song in their repertoire, if Vin G , Roy B and Andy Irvine include one, not to mention Cloudstreet then why not you.

My high point was hearing little Sarah and Kathryn Tindall (age 13 and 9 respectively) produce those wonderfully mature harmonies in the singarounds - not surprising if one has heard their Mum and Dad (Paula & Stuart).

And Cloudstreet's farewell concert with Jonny and Vicky, of course. And I love the oboe sounds in Isambarde's music (remembered Tanita Tikaram and Twist In My Sobriety). And Johnny Morris' singing and delivery in the bar on Saturday and Miller's Bar on Sunday. And Ruth's (from the Shellbacks) rendition of The King Of Rome in the Folk Club on Friday. And Andy's poem about the old couple at the Mudgather; and Les Sullivan's Roses of No Man's Land with Kitty, also at the Mudgather. And Keith Donnelly, and Danansooz, and ....

The only minus point for me, was that it was Cloudstreet's final UK appearance before going back to Oz. *sigh*

Ho hum, in all other respects it was a truly funtabulous festival! Congrats to Merek and Dary.

Hear, hear, MU! Sorry we didn't make the mudgather, but we were kidnapped by the Boxhedge Clippers and made to play at their three-hour ceilidh. This is presumably what comes of agreeing to, and I qoute, "sitting in for a couple of tunes!" However, there's always Bedd'uth!

I think we might have persuaded Derek that the Tindall family should be booked next year! Wonderfully mature singing from both Kathryn and Sarah (not so little when you consider that Stephanie's granddaughters also sang in the same session.....)

I went Saturday only and had a fantastic time especially after nearly not being able to go as my transport was stolen.

I saw Isambarde, Keith Donnelly, Strawhead, Kev and Joe(twice) and Meet on the Ledge and all were great and on top form.

A nice couple sitting next to me said it was the first time they had seen Isambarde and they were "blown away"! and they were not the only ones so Duellngbouzoukis and Moonunit you made some new fans:-)

I have not listened to my Tanita Tikaram tape for ages and now I have been reminded about it I must go and look it out.

Pat Spoons and I had a great time (despite me leaving out 16 whole bars from the William Tell Overture). As always, the weekend was far too short.

My highlights?

Hearing El Greko for the first time.

Seeing the Boxhedge Clippers for the first time after 3 visits, especially their Bohemian Rhapsody (to a medley from Sound of Music if you weren't there).

A fabulous modern version of Hopping Down in Kent in the Sunday Breakfast session at the college (who wrote it?), and sung in the 'right' accent too.

Cloudstreet with Vicky & Johnny.

Scooby Doo's snoring! I never thought anyone would ever surpass the late Gloomy Bob!

See you all at Bedworth (or my birthday sesh, see separate thread).

You must come and say aloha at The Bedd'uth - I probably owe you a drink anyhoo!

In-between band duties I managed to catch:
Cloudstreet
Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer (as duo AND with The Mighty Cloudsteet)
Kevin Dempsey and Joe Broughton
I was blown away by all of them. Pity I didn't manage to catch El Greko - will be sure not to miss him at Bedworth.
