Thankyou madam for your information about writer Richard Mckay. I can say that he should have more fame on writing the well remembered song 'The Road to Dundee'. In the 60s Tam Reid recorded a song caled 'Princie and Jean', a song writen to the tune of the road to Dundee which is the same tune as Carnlough Bay. The writer of this song Princie and Jean was by C Corrigal; if you know anything about him or her please let me know!

A wee plug for the Tam Reid Memorial Concert in Aberdeenshire at the end of October. More than 450 tickets sold so far, and a host of performers from across the country. Here's the full story:

A memorial concert to celebrate the life of Bothy Ballad King Tam Reid will bring together outstanding traditional singers and musicians from all over the UK when it is held later this month.

The Tam Reid Memorial Concert, organised jointly by the Friends of the Elphinstone Institute, at the University of Aberdeen, and the Aberdeen branch of the Traditional Music and Song Association of Scotland (TMSA), will be held on Saturday, October 30, at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, from 7.30pm until 11.00pm.

Tam Reid (1929 – 2003), was a legendary singer, having been crowned in 1977, the Bothy Ballad King, before a crowd of 10,000 people at the Haughs in Turriff, a title that remained his until his death in January 2003.

Dr Ian Russell, Director of The Elphinstone Institute, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to salute Tam's memory and to hear some of the finest traditional singers and musicians from the UK, who will all be gathered to pay tribute to the great man."

Guest performers who have been invited to take part in the concert include some of the country's best loved traditional singers and musicians, such as Robbie Shepherd, Margaret Bennett, Joe Aitken, the Foundry Band, Robert Lovie, and Sheena Blackhall.

Tickets for the concert are priced at £10 (£8 concession), and are available from The Elphinstone Institute, 24 High Street, Aberdeen, AB24 3EB, telephone: (01224) 272996. Funds raised will support the British Heart Foundation, and the Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institution.

The full list of guests who will be performing at the Tam Reid Memorial Concert include: Brian Dawson, Jock Duncan, Gordon Easton, Shirley Foulkes, Scott Gardiner, Alex Green and Madeline Miller, Barbara Greive, Hannah Hutton, David McCracken, Allan McKenzie, Gordon McKenzie, Willie McKenzie, Frank McNally, Geordie Murison, Ian Pirie, Alan and Carole Prior, Sara Reith, Doris Rougvie, Tony Shearer, Jim Taylor, Kate Taylor, John Valentine, Sarah Walker, and John Waltham.

Further information on the concert is available by contacting Dr Ian Russell, Director of the Elphinstone Institute, University of Aberdeen, on (01224) 272386, or at www.abdn.ac.uk/elphinstone.
