Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: breezy Date: 19 Oct 04 - 10:15 AM Hit every music store you come to and try em all till you find what you think is to your liking and better than what you have already, but take yours in so you can compare there and then. Whilst abroad recently I tried all the Martins and Larivees in one store and only found one model that I would have bought out of over dozen availble. it was a Larivee bout$ 3000 the store had separate sound rooms devoted to both manufacturers. good luck. |

Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: Seaking Date: 19 Oct 04 - 07:47 AM Thanks everyone, havn't got the absolute answer yet but looks like it was certainly a Martin. El Greko, I've asked the question because the sound produced by the guitar on that particular album is as close as I've ever heard to what I want to get from my own instrument. I've got a HD28 and have thought about changing it, I'm just trying to get an idea what to look at. Chris |

Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: van lingle Date: 17 Oct 04 - 11:08 AM This is slowly seeping back into my conciousness. I think that guitar had a bound fingerboard and a slotted peghead which would make it possibly a D-35S Martin. |
Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: van lingle Date: 17 Oct 04 - 09:23 AM I seem to remember the photo you're refering to Seaky. He was wearing a white suit and I believe he was holding a 12 fret Martin dread, possibly a D-28S? vl |
Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: breezy Date: 16 Oct 04 - 01:50 PM when he was in London he had a martin dread which he spent a lot of time tuning , mainly cos he didnt have a large repertoire. |
Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: Seaking Date: 16 Oct 04 - 01:29 PM There's a photograph of him playing it on the album cover, it's not the black one, possibly a Martin but can't see it clearly enough to tell. |
Subject: RE: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: van lingle Date: 16 Oct 04 - 12:49 PM Think he was playing a custom Yamaha back then (the black one?)You might find info at acousticguitar.com. vl |
Subject: Paul Simon's acoustic guitar From: Seaking Date: 16 Oct 04 - 12:22 PM Does anyone know what acoustic guitar Paul Simon was playing in 1974? -specifically the one he plays on the 'Live Rhymin' album (the one with Urubamba and the Jessy Dixon singers). Thanks in advance.. Chris |
