Here I am as a guest again!!!

I have been BFG and Juan P-B but after a short while the system chucks me out and when I try to go back in it tells me to register.

When I do this it won't let me register as BFG or Juan P-B again and I'm running out of aliases

Help me please!

BFG/JP-B

Almost all the instances where a login refuses to let you re-enter your info - that I've been able to find a reason for - are from inadvertently changing what you enter, and/or how you enter it. The mudcat system isn't too fussy, so far as I know, but on many login systems, a number off the number row on your keyboard IS NOT the same thing as a number off your NumPad, and a Shift-char is not the same as the char with CapLock turned on. On some systems, the left and right shift keys are even treated as different.

Although we wouldn't accuse you of just forgetting which password goes with which name - or something similar, it is pretty easy to do, especially if you use quite a few different ones at different places.

At mudcat, you need an email address that's associated with the name you use, the name itself, and the password that you make up. If you have more than one email address, and put the wrong name/address combination in, you may not get a login. Of course if you have 2 emails, 2 names, and 2 passwords, you have 8 different ways to mix them up - 6 of which aren't going to work.

You need to pick one name to use, one email addy to register it to, and one password. You should NOT generally just re-register under a different name, since it confuses all of us as much as it may confuse you.

At the top of each page here, there's a "Help" button. If you go there, you can send a message to the mudclones, and usually they can get the problem straightened out. Note that if you go to the "forgotten password" and ask them to send you your password, they can only send it to the email address you used to register the name you ask about. If you have more than one name, the assumption is that you have more than one email account, so make sure you get the right one for the name you ask about - or send an email to whichever clone responds to tell them where to send the info.

Cheers John - I'll try but I promise nossing.

I am sure I am not doing anything untoward - I am able to use the system for three or four days as my signed user name then 'WALLOP' I become a 'guest' again.

I will persevere

It sounds like the Mudcat cookie is not being retained, do you have a set up that clears them every so often? You may be able to confirm the cookie manually as a trusted site. I'm afraid my knowledge isn't deep enough for this one, never mind somebody will know.

As long as you leave your mudcat cookie on the machine, you should be recognized when you connect with the site. If the cookie gets erased, then you'll need to log in the next time you come back - and get a new cookie.

The problem, apparently, was that logging in wasn't working?

The clones are the best ones to help when that happens. There is help on the log-in pages, and also at the Help button. Frequently though, it's just a matter of not remembering exactly what info you used when you created your MudID.

It seems like this one is resolved. The system has improved in clarity since I was a clone but the most common reason for the type of "complaint" above used to be a missunderstanding of the system. People would try to re-register when a login was required. Of course they were then told the username or email address was taken.

The send email reminder is (or was) an automated system not a contact with a person.

Jon -

I wasn't sure if the email password reply was automated, which is one reason I suggested going to Help. Given the confusion and multiple names, I've seen a few people who thought they were being ignored - having forgotten that they'd changed email addys. The message was going to an old email they didn't think to look at.

Well, as long as you keep losing and finding yourself as a whole unit - it's worrying when bits fall off...
