BTW - here is a link to something I meant to talk with a lot of people about at getaway - and then forgot...

It might be of interest to FSGW folk who don't frequent the MudCat as well.

What was going on behind you grew a little while the song progressed but it wasn't that big of a thing. :-)

Cat, it was really cold this year any and all complaints on that level are absolutely grounded in the foundation of truth. Sleep deprivation although self imposed is probably also irrefutable, and like the rest of us I'm sure he missed you.....after that....

Okay folks , this is The Song if like poor Bobert you weren't there and have been confuzzaled by the conversation. Next time I sing this song I need a clear view of the entire audience. I feel like a school marm with an unruly class. The songwriter swears it took intense research.

It was a reflection of a true purring vibration, El Grecko. I can attempt to share the illusion, but for all of BoB's skills he lacks a few techniques. Besides, some wise ass sitting next to me kept up a running commentary and on several occaisions interupted the flow....Perhaps next year without interuptus ???

Nice work, though Sins -- in crossing the line with such flair you clearly have electrified half the male population of the Cat, and terrified the other half, with a very small set of intersection who are both electrified and terrified.

Now just sort out which is which and you'll have your candidate list!! LOL!!

Keep it up, Leo and you will be the Mudcat Toy Boy. These ladies have claws you know.

For the record, although new Mudladies often are attracted to Big Mick's manly presence and virile appearance, once they figure out the potato - well, they walk away singing that old Coca Cola jingle...something about "It's the real thing..."

That's it. I have crossed the line and will no longer post to this thread. See you all next year!

Gentleman...purring is an acceptable vibration from lady cats. It has multiple connotations and reflects our contentment with the weekend at large.   The other sound you continue to refer to is without foundation and not found in any forum of proper ettiquette. Please allow us the illusions of our Getaway Reality. We do our best to maintain decorum amounst the heathens.

mick - that wasn't snoring coming from the Ladies sleeping accomadations - it was merely vibrational breathing in an effort to raise the temperature of the air through molecular movement.

Damn Mick. If I had said the Ladies Room in the Mudcat Cabin, you would have had something else to say!

Annie - you were missed especially one night when there was NO snoring and the silence woke me up. I thought I should go check to see if a certain "lady" was dead but decided it was too cold and if she was it could wait until morning. Lions indeed!

Rita - if you add Thursday and Tuesday, this crew will be begging for a whole week. Like little children, they just don't want it to end. Pre and post parties are available, guys. Give Ferrara a break or Bill won't let her play with us anymore.

Micca doth protest too much. He just wants Catsphiddle to think he suffered through the whole event. Although it was cold enough this year for him to keep his clothes on while he brushed his teeth.

As to you Amos. Be very afraid. The Kendall groupies are in sad shape having been forced to go cold turkey by that Brit. El Greko has been an unwilling substitute, something to do with being married. But you may fit the bill. It is an awesome responsibility. Just look at the glow on Kendall's face since he has been relieved of it.

And NO, Joe Offer. You don't stand a chance. Great smile, dimples even and great hugs but it serves you right for being so nice. Women prefer bad boys with attitudes for their fantasies. Bobert was in the running but he is scared to death of P-Vine. HMMMMM - maybe Spaw.
It's a shame Max is so young...I am having girlish moments over that little love bite.

Mick, since each of the rooms have their own cabin numbers, you're both right. The Mudcat Cabin is home to those prone to disregard the body's basic right to sleep. Of course those who intend to sleep seem to find themselves drawn by it's charms and then must have the strength to separate and find their own beds later in the night.... Wouldn't miss it's wonderful energy myself.

One year, Barry and I extended the Getaway by staying Thursday night in Ferrara's basement. Worked like a charm. Hey, it's a big basement. We could fit the whole Mudcat cabin in there....

SINSULL, I'm glad of the encouragement to join the noisy ladies cabin! I remember finding it in the middle of the night a few years ago and heard "Key of R" for the first time. Seemed pretty magical. I've finished unpacking the car and put away my coat, gloves, shawl and three sleeping bags, but just bought a new little crookneck flashlight -- so I'm ready for next year. Barry, you were missed.

Yeah, Amos, I would absolutely LOVE to have the Getaway go from Thursday to Monday or Tuesday!

However, most camps charge a (huge) minimum for each night and we aren't willing to bankrupt the Society in order to add a couple of nights to the Getaway, so we'll try to find out a bit about cost & then see how many people could make it for the extra days and nights. It's awfully unlikely that we can make it work for next year though.

It might be cheaper to rent a block of rooms & an all-night conference /singing room in a nearby motel for Thursday night! -- and warmer.

Karen K suggested we try to get the Getaway camp from Thursday to Tuesday in future years, so the REALLY whacko folks amongst us can have more singing, freezing, exhaustion, etc. Thanks for reminding me of that, Bobert. Who knows? It's probably too expensive and totally not feasible -- but we can at least check it out.

You'll see, Bobert, you'll see. No matter how many wonderful NEW people come each year, you'll still be missing folks who can't come that you met in earlier years. Funny how that works.

Yeah, Sins, but me and KT were newbees... Hey, we make not make up for those who didn't make it but we (ahhhh, KT more than me...) tried... Sniff...

I would have loved to have met CarolC. Before JtS took her off to Georgia to be his love slave, ahhhh, strike that, his mate, she lived right up the road from me in Sheppardstown but I never got to meet her, sniff...

But that's all history now...

But, and this is a big BUT (no, not big butt...) next year Iz not only gonna stay fir all 3 days, er whatever it is, ahhh, 5 days... I donno, but I'm also gonna find the danged Mudcat cabin 'cuase that's where the action is... I messed up this time and hung 'round the mess hall till like 12:30 and then went to bed as if that was gonna do any good since it was like a minus 14 degrees in there...

And I have sent an apology to at least one Catter fir having to cut a conversation short 'cause I was concerned about gettin' El "Mister" Greco to the airport in time to catch his plane... Next year I'll be sure to have as much time with everyone... sniff... and still get El "Mister" Greco to the airport on time...

And as fir Sinsull, I loved her tee shirt. Every time I looked her way there were some really big eyes lookin' back at me...

Amos? DooWop = entertainment on a cold winter's night? And I thought Kendall was old.

There were a bunch missing from the Getaway this year. The Shellbacks, Barry, CarolC and her Sailor, the FSGW lady who sings British Music Hall songs from Braille cheat sheets in her purse, Annamill & her honey, Keith (last name?), and more. Maybe next year.

Linda Goodman - when are you going to drop the sensible act and join us in the late night noisy women's quarters? If we are really bad we get lullabyed to sleep by Mick, MMario, GutBucketeer, etc. None of us snore and all of us share toothbrushes. And if you get up early enough you may catch Micca in the all together on his way to a shower.

Thanks for the photos, everyone. They have brought back a smile. Dewy eyed Kendall with his new Missus - who would have believed it? Just thought of another 60s song:
"What a difference a day makes. Twenty four little hours."

In Kendall's case it's a year. He is having a hard time keeping up his cantankerous cranky act. hee hee, she says with evil glee. Kendall has met his match!

What everone else has said! Thanks so much to all who posted pictures. My son was looking over my shoulder as I told him who various people were. When I identified Mary (Sinsull), he asked if she had a pet lamb. I laughed and said "Nope! If she has any pets they are probably lions!" "But Mommy, she looks so friendly!"

And she is, son. She is.

The pictures, comments & memories of this year's Getaway has my heart in tears that I missed this one. Would've really liked to have met Kendall's heart throb. Kendall, didn't know you were back singing, that's so great. And, Rita, I did miss giving that Big Mink a hard time, he does love to banter though. I did miss seeing & hearing alot of people & not getting to meet new friends. The Getaway has been my best yearly highlight since first going. Well I like Max's idea for next year's Getaway, it'll make it easier to get there, though I think I could hook up a ride with one of the many North Easteners going south next year. See you all next year. It surte sounds like fun was had by all. Thanks all for posting.

Well, having spent four days at the Getaway getting approx 4 and a half hour's sleep a night, then going off to Norfolk for 5 days for my convention, working 16-hour days and getting approx 4 and a half hour's sleep a night, it's now all one glorious hazy experience.

Tonight, after waking up at 2AM (or is it really 1 AM? -DST off tonight) and cleaning the fish tank, ---what else do you do when you're wide awake at 2AM?-- I suddenly remembered, The Mudcat!! Read the postings about the Getaway and see photos maybe!!! How nice to see it all in focus. Thanks, thanks, thanks to everyone for all the memories.

Every year I manage to avoid the Getaway camera people. This year, AFTER I covered two T-shirts and a sweatshirt in icing then backed into the cake and sat on some more icing - cameras everywhere.

We did have fun. Save your pennies people and join us next year.

Some lovely photos. It does help to see us all smiling and singing in the sun. It's raining here, but I did spend the better part of the day doing some recording and playing with friends, so the pics, Mudcat and music will keep me going until next year.

Now as to ladies, My cousin Katie always says a lady is someone who never does anything unintentionally vulgar. Count me in (although I don't meet the definition I'm 'fraid.)

Tinker, the lady in red next to Ron Davies in Part 10 is Lynn (or Linn) Title. She's the lady who brought the chocolate fudge cake to the potluck & donated the homemade fudge sauce to the Silent Auction. She also is, or has been at one time, a member of SCA; a breeder of fancy English mice; A designer & maker of elegant masks; a plant & garden fancier; singer of songs & shanties; a computer expert; an officer in, I believe, the Navy; and hostess to Alaska Mike & Tawmmie after the 2003 Getaway.

[After last year's Getaway, Noreen and Barbara sat us down and made us describe every single person attached to every single name in the attendance list. They took notes so's they would remember people better. This year, remembering that, I've tried to give a bit of info on Mudcat about some of the people who don't generally post on Mudcat but add so much to the Getaway.]
