White Bird, in a golden cage, on a winters day ....

There's a girl in my room and her face on the wall with no eyes....

Eres tu, eres tu, asi, asi, eres tu.......

Coming to me in the morning..... and the rainbow has a beard

Just walk away Renee......

The lights go down and the curtains are drawn, and when it was over it felt like a dream .... tell them, broken arrow....

Janie, see what thou hast wrought???

Mick

All right, folks - this has gone on far enough - I've started a new thread here

Guilty Pleasures

to pursue this wallowing in our favorite songs we'd never sing in front of Bill Day!

I told the witch doctor I was in love with you...

Oh, the wayward wind is a restless wind
He was a one eyed one horn flying purple eater..

Who dealt this mess?

I was going to post lines from "Honey," but that sick woman SINSULL did it first! Anecdote: I was listening to a new CD in the car and got that nagging "what the hell does that tune remind me of" feeling. A couple of days later, I realized it was "Honey" - the verses are a VERY close match!

Guys...GUYS! Save it for the workshop, eh? (Or another thread?) Maybe along with "Songs from a Hat" we could have "Songs from the Sap Bucket" (somebody draws out a piece of paper that says "mother" or "dead pets" or "flowers" or "tears" or...got it?) and sing "Honey," and "Billy, Don't Be a Hero," or traditional songs (which are almost always better) in the same vein.

We could actually put the titles of sappy pop songs in the bucket and require people to do a trad (or mostly trad) song with the same theme.

Or not.

ok...I've figured out how to use FTP with my new account, instead of doing them one-at-a-time from a web page... so I will create a folder for each 'basic' category of Getaway pics and upload most of them...(some are just bad or vague, and some I may ask permission first) I also will try to make a 'contact sheet' to guide you. (This won't be clickable links, just an image you can open in a new window for reference)...

I will be in & out of my workshop all day, and doing thse pics on breaks from **work**.. it may go fast or slow, depending on how much I tinker with the images, some of which are kinda dark, or had windows in the pic, fooling my cameras's exposure meter.

does ANYONE have any desire to NOT be uploaded. I can't vouch for you thinking "that dress makes me look fat" or "I had a bottle of beer in my mouth" or "I look like I just woke up" or "I don't want to be seen in the same pic with XXXXXXXX" *grin*

I don't think anything is gonna ruin your life here, and I missed the showers, but let me know if you're shy...

Subject: SBADD: Bill-Song (re: Bill Day)
From: GUEST,Lorraine
Date: 28 Oct 04 - 06:24 PM

It occures to me when reading the part about BillD workshop that folkd might be amused at the song we wrote for his birthday a number of years ago. So here it is:

BILL-SONG
(to the tune of Mrs. Ravoon)

He drove in from Kansas, from Wichita U.
He'd had every job that a person could do.
Philosophize nature or count up some beans,
To seek out the Glen which could Echo his dreams.

Mr. Day could - make songs out of wood,
The Emperor's Universe should be good.

Now Bill he sold books that could make grown-ups drool.
He brought forth his auto-harp strings as a tool;
Carving out chords 'til his fingers did tire,
He laid out his songs by the warm winter's fire.

   Chorus

His hearth it lay firm on an energy line
That drew forth a woman persistent and kind.
He'd had loves before, but never like this;
His path it was turned by the force of her kiss.

   Chorus

This path, it turned in - to a journey now found
With forests that shimmered on magical ground.
He saw vibrant shapes in the hearts of the trees,
Heard whispering voices aloft in the breeze.

   Chorus

Their seed it did sprout, to a sapling it grew
Who felt the deep magic his parents both knew.
As this sapling got strong he brought visions anew,
For his father the maker made shapes that were true.

   Chorus

The family found wings as their talents did grow.
They drew on his skills and they joined in his shows.
He flies in the lead of a fantasy grown.
He goes with our love, but just where is unknown

Chorus

It's hard to be sure just how ancient is Bill;
He'll spin you a tale as he guzzles his swill,
But he's weathered some seasons - of that we are sure,
And a person so crusty is bound to endure.

        Chorus
                      G. Rathbone, L. Van Buren 5/93, 5/94,5/99

Love it Lorraine. Thanks.

I'm still himming from the getaway, even wrote a waltz for fiddle (never done that before) and keep remembering songs, tunes, jokes, people and scenes. Was it really only two or so days long? I seem to have about a week of memories packed in there.

Now about that misspent youth/forbidden pleasures stuff, now my mind's full of Tie A Yellow Ribbon, Muskrat Love, Brandy, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, There's Got to be a Morning After, Oh RATS! I'd better go play fiddle and drive out this stuff.

Susan

The chorus of Lorraine's song comes from Bill's favorite expression when he's in a curmudgeonly mood, which is, "Now, If I were Emperor of the Universe, ...." after which he makes a Pronouncement about the proper Solution to the State of Affairs under discussion.

I only mention this because if you've only seen him at the Getaway you may not have seem him in a curmudgeonly-enough mood to evoke said expression.

Among so many more, some memories in random order:

Big Mick singing 'English Rose'.
The wedding party- awesome
KT sandwiched on stage between El Greko and AlaskaMike
KT singing 'John O' Dreams and the silence afterward
Micca raised up and launched into his smiling songs
The sight of Fortunato and Micca grinning below the hotel balcony having come to transport us to a house party- instant friends, nay, kin.
The scene on the back porch of the white house- lovely
The blues-picking workshop in the windy barn in the midst of a hair-raising electric storm
Carly and Dean's home and the balcony overlooking their 'backyard'.
Karen K leading 'This Time Again'

Bring along a sense of humor. PM me or Jacqui for details - Ladies Only...or should that be Females Only. I don't want to exclude anyone.

KT! Fantastic! Love the pics of Kendall & Jacqui.

A couple of IDs. The singer with Allan C & Nancy King is Nan Goland, not me. Nan was leading the Food Songs workshop this year, and is mostly a C&W singer. ("Old Flames Can't Hold a Candle to You", "Red Necks, White Socks & Blue Ribbon Beer", etc.) If you ever get a chance, get her & Nancy King to sing "Sylvia's Mother" for you -- it's a real treat. (Was reminded of that by the Guilty Pleasures thread.)

The ? with Big Mick et al is Heather Pierce, I believe her mom was singer Maggie Pierce. Have I got that right? I have a mind like a steel colander.... Anyway Heather's a regular at our Open Sings as well as the Getaway.

Not necessarily Ebbie, couple times a year I have to do the full throttle bankers wife classy lady routine and I've discovered it's much more fun to class up the dress and hit the power on barely banked throttle. Keeps 'em all guessing and it's a lot more fun....but then I only pretend to be a Lady...BG Mudcat women have alot more class.

Carmen, bless her, made good use of her camera at the Getaway. It was her first time attending. In fact, it was the first time I had seen her in something close to forty years! (You can see a pic of her standing next to me at the late night singaround.) Anyway, here is a slide show of her photos. You'll need to work out who is who while forgiving that there are so many shots of me.
