Fiddlin' Dave Young has asked me if I want to join him in an Old Time/maybe Bluegrass session for the festival on Friday night. No idea where or what time yet. I'll have to get some new fingernails.
Cheers
Ray

Any suggestions for accomodation (other than the indoor camping) for the Saturday night? Are there any cheap B&Bs in the area? It's for me and our lass.

The rest of the festival committee have been wondering for quite some time who "Iced Gems with Les and Maggie" might be; Jim only knows your first names (and hasn't told us what you do), so I'm afraid that the listing in the programme is rather vague and you won't have been contacted formally. Good to have that wee detail cleared up, if a little late in the day. I look forward to meeting you. Jim has put you down for Saturday, 5-7 pm, at the Red Deer.

Most new festivals encounter the odd glitch of this sort, of course. Sheffield will be a particularly good place to be on the weekend of 29-31 October. Those who survive will have stories to tell their grandchildren.

its good to have a bit of mystery at a festival - lots of people who go to singarounds at festivals up and down the country do know the mysterious Les and Maggie and those who dont - have a treat in store!

Iced Gems was born a good few years ago out of the legendary Tap and Spile singarounds. On one particular sesh someone sang an absolutely fantastic song to which our own Jude (Lady Aelfleda) said that it was an 'Iced Gem' the phrase stuck and the next year the landlady even provided the sweet little biccies at around teatime. We then started using the term for an allsorts of teatime session sometimes as the only opportunity to get together at other festivals (it sometimes was the only chance to meet if people were working at different events). We've had some meorable 'Iced Gems' ;- the back gardeen of the Zetland at Warwick and the Peples Voice at Beverley spring to mind.
By the way Les have sorted out your accomodation for Sat.

That's excellent news Jim. I'd sent you a PM before I rediscovered this thread. We arrive in Sheffield mid afternoon as the poor wee lass has to work in the morning.

Malcolm - that's fine for the programme. There's only one rule about Iced Gems and that's there are no rules! Really we would like to encourage anyone to come and sing, play, recite, dance etc anything that they would like. Hopefully it's a catch-all for anything that doesn't quite fit any of the other sessions, or perhaps it's just a place for people who don't eat at tea-time.

Jim - this accommodation, does it include a bed or do we have to bring our owm? I'm sorry I can't email you as my email has gone poorly.

Unfortunately a wedding in Leicester prohibits me from attending this darling of a festival.
I'm gutted, specially since I'll be missing Les and Maggie's 'Gems'!

Sorry Jim

Muppitz x

Yes it includes a bed of the double variety as I presume you are still sleeping with the fragrant one. You'll be stopping with Richard (our treasurer) at Hunters Bar a short taxi ride from the City Centre. I suggest however that you may want to head to Fagans for the afternoon singaround hosted by Little Legs and Our Lady Aelfleda. Get the tram from the station Blue Route to Malin Bridge and get off at West Street cross road head back towards the city and turn left at the 80's bar downhill and Fagans is on the right at the bottom. A short walk back to Red Deer for Iced Gems sesh. I'll sort out that you get your tickets.

Unless the bridesmaid is in drag, I would have problems with the aforementioned sh*gging you were talking about!

All the best for the festival in any case, say ello to the better half for me (And I'm not talking about Ken!)

Muppitz x

Appen I might be there.

Les, looks like I'm a big softy, as it looks like I'll be in Ilkley playing trains with me Grandson on Saturday. Still a possibility of coming down on Sunday though, where will it be all happening singaround wise.
