Subject: Lyr Req: 'Be Happy, Go Lucky' & other ad jingles
From: Blackcatter

As some of you know, I host a website: Blackcatter's World of TV Theme Lyrics

And am constantly looking for lyrics for the site. Gonna post some request here. Was thinking about putting a whole bunch in one thread, but they're from different generes so hopefully listing a bunch seperately will work better.

These are 6 advertising jingles - if you remember them, please help with the lyrics.

-----------

Your Hit Parade (NBC 1950 - 58, with Raymond Scott and his Orchestra; CBS 1958 - 59, with Harry Sosnik and his Orchestra; CBS 1974, with Milton DeLugg and his Orchestra)

Open Jingle/Theme 1: "Be Happy, Go Lucky"

aka: "Be Happy - Go Luckies" and "L.S. Jingle No. 2"

Composer: Raymond Scott, employee of The American Tobacco Company.

----------------------------

Pabst Blue Ribbon Bouts / Fight Of The Week (boxing)

CBS 1948 - 1955; CBS 1951, re-run under "Blue Ribbon Classics"; Syndicated, re-runs via CBS films "Blue Ribbon Classics"

Theme: "What'll You Have? (Pabst Blue Ribbon)"

The melody was adapted from the traditional nursery tune "Ten Little Indians"...In contrast to the published sheet music title which John says is simply "What'll You Have?" -- using the contraction "What'll" (the way the lyrics were) -- the BMI Repertoire database lists the title as follows: "What Will You Have (Legal Title)";

Bill Gale was a prolific composer/performer of polkas and polish songs who also wrote a few commercial jingles;

music by Bill Gale and lyric by Irvin J. Wagner

--------------------------------

Sense And Nonsense (children's quiz, hosted by Bob Kennedy) (Dumont Primetime, 1950 - 1953)

This quiz show for children was aired three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6:30pm from the New York studios of the Dumont Television Network

Open Theme: "Coke Is A Natural"

Above is the title of the Coca-Cola jingle that was sung live to begin the show; "Coke Is A Natural" was one of the 1952 slogans for Coca-Cola

Composer: unknown jingle composer

----------------------------------

Smilin' Ed's Gang / Andy's Gang (children) aka: "Smilin' Ed McConnell, and the Buster Brown Shoe Gang"]

(NBC 1950 - 1951; as "Smilin' Ed's Gang"; CBS 1951 - 1953; as "Smilin' Ed's Gang"; ABC 1953 - 1955; as "Smilin' Ed's Gang"; NBC 1955; as "Andy's Gang")

Theme 1: "The Happy Gang"

This was a Buster Brown shoe jingle sung to the tune of "Mademoiselle From Amentières" (also known in the U.S. as "Hinky-Dinky Parlez Vous")
Composer: [traditional folk tune]

Theme 2: "I Gotta Gang"
This was a Buster Brown shoe jingle, sung to the tune of "I Got Shoes"
Composer: [traditional Negro Spiritual]

Theme 3: "Buster Brown Shoes"
This was a Buster Brown shoe jingle, sung to the tune of "I Got Shoes"
Composer: [traditional Negro Spiritual]

Opening theme: "Colgate Jingle" aka: "Brush Your Teeth With Colgate"

Twice as much for a nickle, too
Pepsi Cola is the drink for you

Trickle, trickle, trickle, trickle

Slight drift: Did the phrase "Happy go lucky" originate with the jingle?
