My Heart wants to draw a crowd and sing out long I love you today
One Life won't be long enough, my love to convey,
So just you wait and see, through all eternity, these words you'll hear from me, I love you today.

For the others, the best I could do was to transcribe a few words from a sound sample:

* * *

Marlene Ver Planck recorded GO FLY A KITE on her album "A Breath of Fresh Air," 1968 (reissued as Audiophile CD #109).

...it's up to me, my darlin'
Better believe that up my sleeve there's an ace
What'll you say if right(?) today, my darlin'....

* * *

Marilyn Maye's recording of I LOVE YOU TODAY is on "Meet Marvelous Marilyn Maye/The Lamp Is Low," (2 LPs reissued as one CD), Collectables #2807, 2001.

...the tree in the meadow, the lark in the blue
Will see the lovely fire of my desire for you.
Hello there, my friend. I love you today.
My heart....

* * *

George Bugatti sings MR. MOON on his album "Oh, What a Night for Love: The Steve Allen Songbook," Sea Breeze CD #3026, 1998.

...if I express my views.
Mr. Moon, I want to tell you something. Listen, birdies up above:
I'm so happy 'cause tonight I went and fell in love....

Subject: Lyr Add: IMPOSSIBLE (Steve Allen)

IMPOSSIBLE
Steve Allen, 1956
(As sung by Nat King Cole)

If they had ever told me how sweet a kiss could be,
I would have said, "Impossible; impossible for me."
And if they said I'd find you beyond the rainbow's end,
I would have said, "Impossible; impossible, my friend."

To dream about what might have been is strange enough for me
But now it seems I'm living in a dream too beautiful to be.

If they had said a moonbeam could calm a stormy sea,
I would have said, "Impossible," but now at last I see
That nothing is impossible if you are here with me.

[instrumental interlude]

I would have said, "Impossible," but now at last I see
That nothing is impossible if you are here with me.

F#m       C#m7-5    F#7      B7
This could be the heart of something...

G         G/F#    Em6      Gdim       D
This could be the start of something big.
*The two introduced this song on The Tonight Show in the mid-50's when composer Allen was hosting it; they certainly recorded it earlier than the 1977 date I'm showing here, but I've been unable to pin down when their first recording was done, so this date will have to do for now.

As some of you know, I host a website: Blackcatter's World of TV Theme Lyrics

And am constantly looking for lyrics for the site. Gonna post some request here. Was thinking about putting a whole bunch in one thread, but they're from different generes so hopefully listing a bunch seperately will work better.

These are themes written by Steve Allen for his shows. If I learn what the lyrics are - they'll be on the Internet for everyone to know.

--------------------

The Steve Allen Show [#1] (comedy variety) (CBS Primetime, 1950 - 1951; CBS Daytime,   1951 - 1952)

Opening Theme 1: "The Steve Allen Theme" aka: "Mister Moon";

Composer: Steve Allen (vocal lyric added in 1954)

Closing Theme 2: "Impossible"

This melody was later re-used for a song in a 1954 TV musical play called "The Bachelor", for which Steve Allen wrote music; it was recorded by several pop ballad singers including Nat "King" Cole, Andy Williams and Aretha Franklin; it was used as Allen's Closing THEME for this show and for his later NBC Sunday Night Show (1956 - 60);

Composer: Steve Allen

--------------------------

The Steve Allen Show [#2] / Sunday Show (comedy variety) (NBC Sunday Nights, 1956 - 1960)

This is the second of three series which have the same name,

Opening Theme 1: "You're The One For Me"

Composer: Steve Allen

Closing Theme 2: "Impossible"

This melody was later re-used for a song in a 1954 TV musical play called "The Bachelor", for which Steve Allen wrote music; it was recorded by several pop ballad singers including Nat "King" Cole, Andy Williams and Aretha Franklin; it was used as Allen's Closing THEME for this show.

Composer: Steve Allen

------------------------

The Steve Allen Show [#3] / Westinghouse (talk show) (ABC Daytime, 1962 - 1964)

This is the third of three series which have the same name

Opening Theme 1: "This Could Be The Start Of Something", from the 1954 TV musical production "The Bachelor" aka: "This Could Be The Start Of Something Big."

Composer: Steve Allen

Closing Theme 3: "I Love You Today (from the 1963 Broadway musical 'Sophie')"

Recorded by vocalists Michael Dees and Marilyn Maye, among others]

Composer: Steve Allen

-------------------

Steve Allen's Laughback (comedy variety, hosted by Steve Allen)

(Syndicated, 1976)

[a show in which Steve Allen, wife Jane Meadows and his friends introduce film clips of past television segments from Steve Allen's various shows]
