Jim Lloyd and Kirk Sutphin, two old-time music and fiddler's convention stalwarts are offering workshops at
Holiday Lake 4-H camp. These guys are the real deal-- tradition-bearing old-time music families, years of fiddler's convention competition, real genius. These are the guys that the other old-time musicians want to play with when they can.

Jim is teaching guitar and Kirk is teaching clawhammer banjo. Alan Jabbour, who is with the Library of Congress, is teaching fiddle. He has been playing old-time for 40 years and can probably be forgiven northern roots and an advanced degree.

The classes are small, the camp is comfy, this is a great opportunity to get your playing up a notch, not to mention just hang out and hear musicians this good.

Anyone who wants to become a good old time musician would do themselves a real favour going to this workshop.
Alan Jabbour is coming over to the UK in February to the Foaotmad Old Time Festival at Gainsborough, which will also involve workshops. I'm really looking forward to it.
More later.
Ray

I'm pretty sure that Alan has retired from the LoC. The workshops are in Appomattox, Virginia. Nov. 7-10, 2004.

Thanks for adding the dates.

For those who care about these things, these guys aren't club players but the very best out of the local VA-NC tradition of incredible old-time instrumental music.

Does the banjo workshop include the use of a 14lb sledgehammer?
