Subject: Stepping on the Eels Foot 2005 From: GUEST,David Delarre Date: 21 Oct 04 - 09:49 AM I posted this on the Beeb site,if anyone is interested on this board, then email me at dave@mawkin.co.uk Cheers, As some you may or may not be aware, I'am one of the organisers of Moreton Midsummer Folk Festival, me and my family started the festival at the turn of the millenium, and for 4 years its been a great little festival. However due to some awkward situations with local councils, local authorities and local people, the festival will not be running next year.Due to the fact that a festival of that size cannot be run on such a tiny budget if it is expected to adhere to licenses and safety laws. So I would like to say a very big thankyou to anyone who may have supported us over the past 4 years, helped us survive by spreading the word or by whatever means, thankyou very much. So now that I have only two things left to organise (my degree and my band) I have taken the step to help a tradtion that I have been into since I was old enough to stand. My father and I have been given the opportunity by the Arts Council to help sustain, promote and develop the fantastic tradtion art of stepdancing. We've already been promoting stepdancing in schools, but the main thing I'am trying to get together is a Step Dancing Festival! It will take place in the very home of East Anglian step dancing, Suffolk! In a little village called Eastbridge lies a wonderful pub called 'The Eels Foot'.'The Eels Foot' has a strong folk history (The BBC even did recordings of folk music there in the 1930's) and also has a strong stepdancing history. The festival is still in the early stages of things, but it is definitely going to run, and hopefully should bring together, old traditionalists of steppers, local steppers, and hopefully encourage a few people to take up stepping. We want to put some stepdancing workshops together, bands, sessions over a weekend in May. The event will be called 'Stepping on the Eels Foot 2005'. If there is ANYBODY who would like to help out in organising it (preferably in the suffolk/essex are), then please find me by googling my name. So is there anyone who would like to go to this event? Has anyone got any suggestions on what to include in the programme? Is this event healthy for folk music? Has anyone heard of anything like this happening before? Basically, I'am the only person organising this, so its a big job, I would really appreciate advice and guidance if you can offer it. all the best David Delarre (Organiser with a self destruct button) |

Subject: RE: Stepping on the Eels Foot 2005 From: GUEST,Crystal Date: 22 Oct 04 - 04:35 AM Where are you at uni Dave? As to organiser with a self destruct button. We (organisers) ALL have one, I believe it comes with the territiory and the propensity to voulenteer ourselves for difficult tasks. (says Crystal who has just stupidly voulenteered herself for food preparation, crib writing and calling duties at a big event in Scotland) |
Subject: RE: Stepping on the Eels Foot 2005 From: GUEST,Dave Delarre Date: 22 Oct 04 - 11:15 AM Im at the University of Hertfordshire studying Music Commercial Composition and Sound Technology. Good to hear that your doing some organising work too, I think more people should take up something to organise just so they can appreciate it more when someone else does it! Have we met before? I recognise the name. Is it possible anyone else may answer this plea? or we'll they just talk about Eels and Herring? |

Subject: RE: Stepping on the Eels Foot 2005 From: GUEST,Press Release Date: 03 Nov 04 - 08:25 AM Steppin' on the Eels Foot 2005 2 days of step dancing mania, with workshops, music sessions, and of course, real ale. 8th – 9th of July 2005, will see the conjugal home of Suffolk folk music; The Eels Foot Inn, Eastbridge, come alive with music, song and dance. Steppin' on the Eels Foot 2005 premise is to promote, develop and sustain the relatively unknown form of English dance that is Step Dancing, it will bring together styles from all over the country, provide an informal setting for this indigenous dance to be learnt, and there will be plenty of music and beer for those who just want to watch. The Eels Foot Inn has a 200 year history to its links with folk music, from travellers to smugglers; all walks of life would come to The Eels Foot. In the 1930's many of the sessions were recorded by the BBC to keep an archive of the excellent music played by the local community, since then the inn has continued to be a great musical home to many of the finest musicians, singers and steppers in Suffolk. More information about the event will be released as it develops. |
