Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Inka Dinka Doo (Jimmy Durante) From: keberoxu Date: 15 Nov 19 - 12:50 PM When I turned on the car radio one evening, I heard a station that plays what they call "oldies", and they were playing a recording of a Jimmy Durante performance of Inka Dinka Doo. Different performance, though, from the above transcribed by Jim Dixon. This one included Jimmy Durante's rant about women washing their stockings and where they hang them up to dry, for some reason. |
Subject: Lyr Add: INKA DINKA DOO (Jimmy Durante) From: Jim Dixon Date: 14 Nov 19 - 10:25 PM INKA DINKA DOO (Ryan - Durante) As recorded by Jimmy Durante, 1933. (Columbia 36732 – Click to play.) [Spoken words are in parentheses. The rest are sung. There are no accompanying voices; it is all Jimmy.] (Folks, ain’t that beautiful? My symphony! A masterpiece! I can hear you sayin’—) What is that haunting refrain that I hear in the air, Here and there, Ev'rywhere? It’s just a beautiful strain that keeps hauntin’ my brain constantly. It’s my melody. It’s my symphony. Ink—a dink a doo—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. Oh, what a tune (What a tune!) for croonin’! Ink—a dink a doo—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. It’s got the whole world spoonin’. Eskimo bells up in Iceland Are ringin’. They’ve made their own paradise land Singin’— Ink—a dink a doo—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. Simply means ink—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. (Listen to that melody! Listen to that melody! Why, it would add class to any concert. You know, I resent them playin’ my symphony in jazz. I resent it! But they’re payin’ me for this, so I'm helpless, really helpless. But if that’s what the world wants, I'm your slave. So here it is—) Ink—a dink a doo—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-boo! (Just a-croonin’! Just a-croonin’!) Ink—a dink a doo—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. [whistles] (Ha-ha-ha-ha! There’s a little bit o’ Bing Crosby in me! Ha-ha-ha-ha!) Eskimo bells up in Iceland are ringin’. (Come on, Jimmy! Here comes the finish! Pep it up! Hit it!) Ink—a dink a doo—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. (What a voice! What a voice!) Simply means ink—a dink a dee—a dink a doo. (Goodnight, folks! Signin’ off!) |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Inka Dinka Dink (Durante) From: GUEST Date: 24 Oct 10 - 09:17 AM I was reading Jimmy's wikipedia page, but they don't mention anything about the weekly variety show he used to do every week back in the late '60s. I think the actual title was something like Jimmy Durante and the Lennon Sisters. Anyway I remember watching that show when I was a kid. It was pretty good. |
