Read a story, circa 1820, where a little boy's grand mother sang this song to him. Need to Know it.

Do you mean 50 years ago as in

Put on your ould knee britches
And your coat of emerald green
Take off that hat me darlin Pat
And put on your ould caubeen

Today's our golden wedding
And I want you all to know
Just how we looked when we were wed

etc, etc ???????????????/

Moe The Lester S. Levy Collection of Sheet Music lists three or four early pieces with the title "Fifty Years Ago." I have heard the song many years ago, but can't remember enough of it to try a good search. At least the Levy site gives you some more options.

Moe,

Just for you !!

The Golden Jubilee

Way down in the county Kerry
In a place they call Tralee
A fine old couple they lived there
Called Kate and Pat Magee
They were going to have a party
For their Golden Jublilee
And Kate, says she, to Pat Magee
Come listen here to me

Chorus

Put on your ould knee britches
And your coat of emerald green
Take off that hat me darlin' Pat
And put on your ould caubeen
Today's our golden wedding
And I want you all to know
Just how we looked when we were wed

Tis well do I remember
When we danced on the vilage green
You held me in your arms dear Pat
And called me your colleen
Your hair was like the raven's wing
But now its turning grey
Take off that hat, me darlin' Pat
And hear what I've to say

Chorus

Tis well do I remember
When first I was your bride
In the little chapel yonder there
Where we sat side by side
Of good times we've had many
Of troubles we've had few
Take off that hat, me darlin Pat
And here's what you must do

Chorus

Maybe there are more verses, but thats as far as my memory goes

This is a lively tune and if you can find someone who can play the accordian (*grin*) he/she could finish with a reel (The Sally Gardens come to mind)
