Subject: Lyric Req: One Evening in Summer From: GUEST,Guest Chris Date: 26 Oct 04 - 09:30 AM Dear all, Do any of you know the words to a song called 'One evening in Summer'. I've found mentions of it on the mudcat in old threads, but not the actual words. I've heard the Wilsons sing it a few times and i'd really love to learn it. Thanks Chris |

Subject: RE: Lyric Req: One Evening in Summer From: BB Date: 26 Oct 04 - 02:53 PM It's called 'On an Evening in Summer', I believe, and is by excellent songwriter Graeme Miles. It's on The Wilsons' LP 'Horumarye', along with lots of Graeme's other songs. They really should re-release that on CD. Barbara |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: One Evening in Summer From: GUEST,Vic at work Date: 27 Oct 04 - 11:05 AM Get hold of Graemes book, Songscapes, I think its in there. (Worth it as most of his songs are in there and the photographs by Robin Dale are stunning.) |

Mudcat has never failed me in coming up with either the words or some excellent suggestions on how to get them. Chris |
Subject: Lyr Add: AN EVENING IN SUMMER (Graeme Miles) From: GUEST,MCP Date: 29 Oct 04 - 08:50 AM Sorry I've only just looked at this thread - I'd assumed it was for a different song. Here it is from one of my song folders(looking at which made me realise how much I'd altered it to the version I sing these days!) Mick AN EVENING IN SUMMER (Graeme Miles) Over yon hill now the sun's coming down And the elm tree's long shadow creeps over the ground. Now the farmer he's finished a-mowing his grass And it's time for a young man to go court his lass. Chorus: In an evening in Summer, In an evening in Summer In an evening in Summer, Late on in June. Let into The Crown now for to swallow a jar. Let's put the world right as we prop up the bar. Let's crack our sides laughing at a thumping good tale. Let's sing a loud chorus in praise of strong ale. Let's talk about cricket and that knock by young Squires. What price by next season he'll be capped for the Shire. But we won't forget Jonesie who won us the match When he ran from the covers to take that fine catch. Now the old clock's sneaked round now and the landlord's called time And we'll make our way homewards, or at least we will try. But we all go the same way so together we'll keep And we'll all help each other to stay on our feet. Source: The Wilsons, LP: Horumarye |
