Subject: Lyr Req: Little White Washed Building on The Farm From: HiHo_Silver Date: 29 Oct 04 - 06:40 PM Here are some lyrics sung by my father. I can no longer remember in their entirety. Perhaps someone can come up with the total song. On the wall a picture hung of Grandma spinning yarn, On the left a picture of Pappy with his pipe And the bees had built a nest But pa said, "Let them rest In that little whitewashed building on the farm." Pa said, "The bees will let you pass" And then one stung him on the arm, In that little whitewashed building on the farm. Was in the early month of May I could sit there all the day With my head resting on my bended arm And in the merry month of June You could smell that sweet perfume From the little whitewashed building by the barn. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little White Washed Building on The F From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 29 Oct 04 - 11:01 PM Oh the little whitewashed building where we played when we was children 'Twas the most important building on the farm Where we'd read the evening mail and tear up the Eaton's sale In that little whitewashed building by the barn Where the bees would build their nest and Granpa said "let 'em rest" In the little whitewashed building by the barn But he changed his mind at last when one stung him on the ass In that little whitewashed building by the barn |

From the Varsity Outdoor Club Songbook, 1993 (pdf file): BY THE BARN By the barn, oh, by the barn, It's the most important building on the farm, Where we used to sit at ease With our elbows on our knees In that little whitewashed building by the barn. Where we used to read our mail As we tore up Eaton's sale... Where grandpappy cursed his soul When his pipe fell down the hole... We would sit there for a reason When the apples were in season... Where the hornets built their nest And grandpappy let 'em rest... Where he changed his mind at last When one stung him on the— ... |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Little Whitewashed Building on The Farm From: GUEST,K. Allen Ballard, New London, MO Date: 05 Jun 09 - 03:36 PM I once heard this song on the radio at a 4H / Grange Youth meeting and hay ride just west of Ewing, MO when I was about 16. One particular verse that I remember goes: "Oh, That Little white-washed building by the barn, Most important building on the farm. That building's no longer there 'Cause the methane made a flare In that little white-washed building by the barn" I'm sure there are more variations than this. By the way, as I recall this was the last verse. I couldn't stop laughing or I might have remembered more. |
