Subject: Folk Music on the Net (Can you Add ?) From: JABunch Date: 14 Nov 98 - 12:43 AM I have found that the internet is becoming more and more a way to reach out and connect with interests that are small locally, but have a large following nationally, or inter-nationally. Autoharping and The Cyberpluckers are a case in point. Folk music on the radio is often rare in many areas, or only comes on at out of the way times. Consequently I have been searching out, collecting, and listening to internet folk music sites via Real Audio. Some of my favorites are shown below. The only criteria for making the list is that its folk music and you can listen to it over the internet, and I liked it. I thought you might enjoy trying these sites out. Every once in a while you might even hear an autoharp, or two on them. At least check out the King Pup Radio hour on Radio YUR. Its a stitch. If you know of any others let me know and I'll add them to the list. Subject: RE: Folk Music on the Net (Can you Add ?) From: Roger in Baltimore Date: 17 Nov 98 - 09:16 PM Don't know if this has been listed. It's called the DJ Player. It plays continuous music and you can select the category. I'm listening to folk right now: Nanci Griffith singing Richard Thompson's "Wall of Death." They also have a Delta Blues category. Audio quality is just barely acceptable, and the audio stream is broken frequently if you are using the net for anything else at the same time. It is free and it is promotional of course.
http://www.spinner.com/index.jhtml?TheDJPlayer Next in line tonight is John Prine singing "Space Monkey", perhaps in honor of John Glenn. Roger in Baltimore |
