Halló all , at 22:00 last night started a eruption In the Glacier
Vatnajokull wich is far from all towns and citys but the stroke is
up to 13km In the air so all flights must go south around Iceland.
this is a big one and we had an eruption 1998 at the same place and then the roads vipped away in big waterwave witch comes down when the Ice is melding down from the heat and it´s gonna be the very same thing this time.

no , but a ash could fall In towns and citys though.We are not worry about this eruption.





There is another that we expect to go up now and then and that is gonna affect alot of people not just in Iceland but
It might spred the ash around to England and many other countrys.
And that is the Volcano " Katla ".
We might a time to remove about 4000 people In time before its gonna blow, if not then god help us, but this is gonna happen in ? could go off tomorrow or after some time ? who knows.

are there any cameras showing images of it?
in the U.S. we have Mount Sain Helens becoming
more active and we can watch it on a web cam.
I have seen a movie of how they spray hot molten lava
with sea water to get it to cool and form a wall to
protect a city in Iceland...i hope there is not much
damage from Katla. There are places where ash from
Mt. St. Helens spread for thousands of miles the
previous time it erupted. The ground was filled
with ashes for years. Good luck. HOpe you are

Spraying lava with seawater was used to save the harbour and town of Heimay in the 1970s. This technique doesn't "freeze" the entire lava flow, but it can help create a solid dike or embankment. If contours and other factors are favourable, the lava flow will be diverted by this dike.

In the case of the Vatnajokull, the eruption is miles from the sea, and has already melted a substantial part of a glacier.

Halló all, HuwG- I lived In Island Heimaey 1973 January 23th at 01.30 at night time we had leave our home and go by sea to upland
we lost our house and every other thing we had.
we lived 500 mtr from the eruption , I don´t think i want to live that time again.

Anyway the eruption In Vatnajokull is getting bigger and the stroke is now 12-14 km up to the air and lots of ashes goes through the air.
The volcano its self is about 1 km arounded and lots of Ice has been melted and the comes as a flood down from the Glacier.
so they have glosed the roads witch are a long the coast at night time.

You're right, Burke. Those web pages and search engines fool people sometimes. I googled for 2004, and the pages must have had 2004 in there somewhere.

Meanwhile: "The eruption was believed to have been caused by expansion of a lake underneath the Vatnajokull glacier." What kind of geological science is that? I rather suspect that the eruption is caused by the movement of hot magma in the earth.

Volcanic eruptions certainly are caused by magma. Possibly the site was referring to the "eruption" of flood water, which is caused by the volcanic eruption melting the ice.

I recall attending a meeting of the British Geological Society in Keyworth some years ago, where they discussed the various types of under-ice eruption. The surprising conclusion was that rhyolite eruptions, which are normally violent and paroxysmal, are effectively damped by enough overlying ice, while basalt eruptions which are normally less violent (though no less destructive if one lives on top of the vent or fissure), are more dangerous because they can melt vast amounts of the ice. The resultant escape of melt-water may be explosive and destructive.

My quibble with the web site; a vast "pawl" of smoke? A pawl is a link in a chain. A "pall" is a canopy or hanging cloth, often black and associated with funerals. When will web designers discard the spell-checker and use a dictionary ?

Halló all , the science men are telling us that when the water witch was on the volcano went down from it the weight on the volcano is lighter
and that coused the eruption becouse the magna had about 150 mtr
left up the through the volcano? Hmmmmmm
