Fain Once I had a Secret Love That lived within the heart of me All too soon my Secret Love Became impatient to be free; So I told a friendly star The way that dreamer's often do Just how wonderful your are And why I'm so in love with you; Now I shout it from the highest hills Even told the golden daffodils Now my heart's an open door And my Secret Love's no secret any more. |

Subject: Lyr Add: SECRET LOVE (parody by Homer & Jethro) From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Dec 03 - 11:22 PM The original was first sung by Doris Day in the film "Calamity Jane," 1953. Lyrics to the following parody transcribed from the sound file at http://www.geocities.com/u2page6/ SECRET LOVE (As sung by Homer & Jethro) Once I had a secret love That lived way down in Tennessee. I loved the ground that she walked on. I thought she owned that property. Yes, she was my secret love. Of that there cannot be a doubt. I've been in love with her for years. I hope my wife don't find it out. Once I took her took a picture show. Tried to kiss her while the lights were low. She hit me in the mezzanine Between the popcorn and the Coke machine. Now she's really got me up a tree 'Cause some dirty pigeon told on me, An' now my head is awful sore 'Cause my secret love's no secret anymore. |

I think it was on an LP by an Ivy League glee club. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Add: Secret Love (and parody) From: leeneia Date: 11 Jun 21 - 12:28 PM I started writing down the sheet music for this. In the key of F, it goes from middle C to the F at the top of the staff. That's pretty challenging. I saw "Calamity Jane" as a little kid. It was a welcome relief from "War of the Worlds," which was the other movie on the double feature. I spent most of that one in the lobby because I was so frightened. I remember the man who sold candy saying to me, "The other one is Calamity Jane. You'll like Calamity Jane." "Secret Love" became a song we liked to sing around the house in the 1950's. |
