Ok - now the Cap'n's gotten over his latest operation we're heading back to the UK for Christmas.

We're flying in on 30th November and back on the 6th January. We have to be in Hertford for the first week or so, then up to Newark for a few days and then probably back down south for a few days.

We have to babysit my four year old grandson the three days prior to and after Christmas and want to get up to Scotland on 29th December for a concert near Glasgow. We would like to spend New Year's Eve with like minded souls in Scotland if that can be arranged and then it's back down south, probably via Newark, to fly back.

We want to get to some sessions while we're over - I don't mind driving a reasonable distance to get to meet Mudcatters. Like most Mudcatters we both really want to meet Sir jOhn while we're in Newark - is the Hull Flok Club on every week?

We don't want to bring Kendall's guitar over with us - I've watched the baggage handlers at work! If anyone has a guitar that we can borrow for the period we would be very grateful.

Hopefully this will be but the first of many trips to visit my family/tour the UK but it may be six months or more before we can get over again so we would like to make this one a good one and put more faces to the names on the Mudcat.

Hull Flok Club is on the First Thursday of the month,
there will be loads of mudcatters there on the 2nd of December, as Mudcatters "Muppet", "Staww Legend" and "Hand Pulled Boy" are doing a concert, entry is free and you'll both be very welcome.
Hull Flok Club is a friendly easy going affair, so if either or both of you want to do a few songs or tunes, we'd love to hear you.

Not sure if we can do Hull on the 2nd as I have to finish off clearing my house in Hertford as soon as we fly in. However, I am looking at the possibility of taking a car load of stuff to my daughter's in Newark that day and staying over to make Hull in the evening.... Means another trip down the A1 on Friday but it could be worth it.

Mrs Duck - we might take you up on the offer on the way back from Scotland. We're childminding up to 28th and then doing the dash to Glasgow on the 29th. However, it might be nice to break the journey on the way back. Can you pm your phone number and we'll phone once we get a clearer idea of what's happening.

BOAB - we're going to see Gaberlunzie on 29th December in Uplawnmoor. Looking at the map you are on the way back down south so we would love to join in the New Year celebrations in your part of the world. Do yopu know of any reasonable B&B establishments in your area?

Micca - can we try for the 5th or the 12th - whichever is most suitable for all concerned please. Make sure that Dave and Essex Girl can make it - can't miss seeing them.

Bobert - as I keep telling Kendall - YOU speak American, WE speak English - that's why my homeland is called ENGLAND.

Shanghaiceltic - can you pm a phone number we can reach you at once we get to the UK? Where are you going to be based? It would be good if you could get to the Black Lion in Plaistow as well - those sessions are always good.

Eleanor - I'll email you with details - we've got to make it for the Millstream on the 8th anyway - I read the thread on the session tomorrow night - sounds interesting!

I speak English - had to take four years of it in high school. American is what British actors speak when trying to sound like Californians.
El Greko has a concert in late December - any chance you'll make it? And speak with his lady about his Toy Boy status????

SINS - I'll do what I can - I hope that we can get to any concert that George does.

I'll talk to Vanessa about the toy boy bit, but she will probably be coming to next year's Getaway and that might cramp your style! As I said, you can still have Kendall for that purpose, he's perfectly willing to retain the title.

Thanks Pixie and Alan. Offers gratefully accepted.

EP - we plan to get into London at least one day during our stay and to get together with you.

At the moment the first thing we have to do is help my daughter clear my house before completion on, we hope, 10 December. Once that is done we will be able to work out where we are going to be and when. As I will no longer have the house we will need to stay with friends close to Hertford/London and this has to be arranged as well.

Sooz - Gainsborough is on the list of wants - we'll be there if we can - especially since it's non smoking!

Haddenham sounds interesting and we might make it if we're not totally flaked out.

We fly in on Tuesday night, stay in Shepperton overnight and then travel down to Southampton to pick up the car the next morning. Straight back up to Hertford for a spot of house clearance Wednesday and Thursday and a day's sightseeing in London on Friday with my daughter and family. Out that night with good friends in Hertford.

Can you give me some more details please Kitty - I'm not even sure where Haddenham is!

Well, we've been here almost two weeks. We're now in Newark but travelling back down south tomorrow - things to do at the house.

So far we've been to sessions at the Bull at Barton, the Black Lion in Plaistow, the Lion in Eastwick and had a session at my empty house when the Millstream told us that they couldn't accomodate us in December due to the Christmas trade. We've just got back from a very select session at The Strugglers Inn in Lincoln - seems sickness kept the organiser away and only four of us in total turned up, but had a good time.

We're hoping to be at Waltham Abbey tomorrow evening, if we have the energy, and then at the Bull in Bennington on Tuesday evening. We're travelling back up to the Midalnds on Thursday to hopefully make the session in NW Leicestershire and then to Gainsborough on Friday evening. Saturday - flake out - Sunday a session in the Sheffield area. Then it's a case of finding out what is going on in the area around Newark in Christmas week and whether we will have the energy for any further sessions!

It has been great meting new Mudcatters and we hope that we can meet a few more before we head off back to the States in January.

We can't make it up to you this time although we both want to get farther north at some point.

Well, we got back to Maine yesterday and into the snow!

Our journey home wasn't particularly good - the flight we booked from Washington to Partland was non-existant and we weren't told about that until we got to Washington. As a result we had a four hour wait for the next flight and that did not please the Cap'n! On unpacking the bags this morning we found that the wheel on one of the brand new holdalls had been smashed off, ending up INSIDE the bag! We're now told by the airline that, while they will repair the bag they won't get the wheel fixed and they won't pay for a new bag. Added to that, they now charge for wine on their transaltlantic flights!!! Don't think we'll be flying with United Airlines again!

On the plus side we met more Mudcatters around and about the UK, all of whom made us feel so welcome. Thanks to you all, friends old and new, you made the trip a really great experience. I'm only sorry that Kendall wasn't well enough for us to get to see more of you - hopefully we can put that right next time.
