Subject: RE: Songstuff.com From: The Beast of Farlington Date: 12 Nov 04 - 12:09 PM Sorry folks, I had a nightmare trying to create a blue clicky, the best URL is www.songstuff.com I'll shut up now. |
Subject: RE: Songstuff.co.uk From: Geoff the Duck Date: 12 Nov 04 - 03:14 PM Beast -Your first address didn't work because you have started it "www.mudcat.org/" That means your browser will try to look within the mudcat site to find the "songstuff.co.uk" part of the address. Obviously it is NOT within the Mudcat website, so you get an error message. The easiest way to do a Blue Clicky if you are here at mudcat is to use the link just below the posting "type your message here" box. It says :- Make a link ("blue clicky") and is a Blue link. When you click on it, a new window should open, so that you can do what you need to do without messing up the window you already have open. What you do then is :- 1) go to the web page you want to link to. 2) Highlight the "address" box for the web page. 3) copy the web address for the page (on a Windoze P.C. hold down the "Ctrl" and also the "C" button)or use the "Edit" menu to copy. 4) return to the "blickifier" window and paste the web address into the "Link URL:" box - Use browser's "Edit" menu (or for windoors highlight it and press "Ctrl"+"V" keys). Then type any text you want to appear into the other box. 5) Click the "Make Link" Button and the Mud-Elves will create the text you need to copy and then post back into the forum message box. Hope that helps. Quack! Geoff the Duck. p.s. http://songstuff.co.uk/ |
Subject: RE: Songstuff.co.uk From: Geoff the Duck Date: 12 Nov 04 - 03:23 PM Just a warning - one of the first things i spotted on the site was an advert for getting rid of pop-ups with the "Alexa Toolbar". Alexa is one of the pieces of software that Ant-Spyware sites warn you not to ever install as it tries to do things to your computer which are NOT for your benefit. I think it re-directs your browser where IT wants you to go rather than where YOU want. Best computer advice is "Be Cynical" not many people give anything good away for free. Quack!! Subject: RE: Songstuff.co.uk From: Geoff the Duck Date: 14 Nov 04 - 01:11 PM I'm not saying there is anything wrong with the Songstuff web site, just warning about clicking on "FREEBIES" from unknown sources. A lot of websites put adverts on their pages to pay their ISPs. These adverts can include stuff from people whose motives are basically to use us all as a source of revenue, forinstance the ones who try to get us to install spyware or scumware on our computers. I don't think that the Alexa toolbar is one of the nasties which can install itself without your knowledge. You have to actually do that yourself. I'm just warning that it is a known "Spyware" programme which claims to be helpful, but once you are using it - it may send information about your computer usage which is sold to people you might not wish to have it. Quack! Geoff. |
