Subject: Review: Country Music Awards From: GUEST,Mingulay Date: 15 Nov 04 - 06:17 AM Caught some of this show on BBC2 over the weekend. Strange event! Some of the actual music content was finger picking good, many of the lyrics weren't. Everyone there was a good ole country boy (even the women) and they all looked darned uncomfortable in them store bought clothes. The most impressive thing, however, was the hattage. At a folk event you get a great deal of beardage, but this was a serious acreage of stetson so much so that parts of the auditorium looked as though they had a mezzanine floor. Oh and brown stetson with grey pin stripe, really! Just thank god it wasn't the Country and WESTERN awards. All that horse shit and hog droppings! Before anyone complains, this is ( slightly ) tongue in cheek. |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: Once Famous Date: 15 Nov 04 - 12:26 PM The CMA awards have both good and bad highlights. Much of it panders to what country radio deems popular. However, there is always some honoring of the great traditions of the music itself. However, I believe Chet Atkins is rolling over in his grave if he knows about "Big and Rich" |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: Once Famous Date: 15 Nov 04 - 03:03 PM she's also pretty hot in a sweaty old trailer park type of way. That cheatin' song thing she sang has a cool video that they are playing on CMT. |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: chris nightbird childs Date: 15 Nov 04 - 03:05 PM She is a beautiful woman. After all the hubbub ends with her, she could grow into quite a singer/songwriter in Country music... |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: Once Famous Date: 15 Nov 04 - 05:05 PM Winners of the Horizon award usually stay around for quite a while. Wilson is not very young, really at I believe 32. Provided that she can still look good in jeans in a few years, she figures to be around a while. |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: GUEST,Mingulay Date: 16 Nov 04 - 08:27 AM So we are all agreed, Gretchen Wilson looks good in jeans. I get the feeling that a certain nightbird doesn't care what she wears. |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: DougR Date: 16 Nov 04 - 04:26 PM I use to like some country western songs but it seems to me that there is little difference now between country western and Rock and Roll. I don't care for either now. The music I like was performed by Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, Tex Ritter, Patsy Cline, Tommy Duncan, Tex Williams, Tennessee Ernie Ford. Folks like that. Yeah, I'm dating myself. DougR |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: Lin in Kansas Date: 17 Nov 04 - 12:55 AM AND Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings and David Allen Coe... You betcha, Doug R and Chris nightbird. The stuff they call country now belongs in the same ranks as rock and roll garage bands (IMHO). Lin |

Subject: RE: Review: Country Music Awards From: GUEST,Mingulay Date: 17 Nov 04 - 08:54 AM Some of the music was fine, the hats were stupendous although one of the main presenters wore a black stetson with such a wide and curly brim that it made him look like Mickey Mouse. But who wrote the script, if that's what it could be called. Stick to singing guys. |
