A group of us (musicians, singers and listeners) will be staying near Keswick between Dec 27 and Jan 3.

Anyone know of any folk clubs, sessions etc on over that period?

When we were there a couple of years ago, one of the pubs in Threlkeld was very amenable, so we hope to get our own thing going, but it would be nice for some of us to savour the local scene.

Ta

Splott Man

I may be up the Duddon or thereabouts then; but the geography of the Lake District being what it is, that may look neara Keswick on the map, but in terms of convenience ut isnt. William irwin walked from Chapel Stile(Langdale) to the Newfield(Duddon valley), and to Keswick for gigs. But Keswick to Duddon Valley for fun is a no-no in winter as far as I am concerned, walking or driving. But if there is going to be a session at the Newfield, I'll let you know in due course, in case you are feeling intrepid.

We're near Cockermouth for the duration. We is a Caran, a whistle maker of note and meself, who are inclined to making music. Please keep me in the loop about pubs/sessions that you might uncover, Splott. Thanks for starting the thread.

We'll be in the old isolation hospital at Blencathra, now either a Field Study Centre or Youth Hostel (I can't remember, I didn't do the booking), nearest village being Threlkeld. We'll walk to there, but fire up the old Golf if we're going further afield.
If Cockermouth club is on, we'll be there, we raided it 2 years ago and had a great time (can't say about the locals, though they were smiling most of the time).
We'll certainly keep you posted Skipjack K8.

Keswick to the Duddon is surely fun in the right circumstances. I just wouldnt drive from Keswick to the Newfield Inn in order to stay sober at a session and drive back, all in the dark!
