Subject: Sun rises again in Beverley From: ET Date: 17 Nov 04 - 03:25 AM The Sun in Beverley, East Yorks, opposite the Minster is open again and those who go to the Tuesday night session currently at Nellies, voted to return to the Sun from next Tuesday - 8.30 pm - first hour dedicated to learning new music! Thanks to Roger for clearing this with new Landlord. Lets hope the current arrangements for the Sun (which is a fine pub but has had more managers than most football teams in the last five years) lasts this time. There is another Session at the Sun on Fridays, started last wek with great sucess and continues for future Fridays. |

Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 02 Dec 04 - 03:56 AM The Tuesday session attracted about 15 performers of whom only two of us were also there on Sunday. So, that means that well over 30 people have turned up to play and sing over the two days . Apparently the Sunday was financially the best for the landlord since the pub re-opened and the Tuesday is also significantly more viable since we returned there. Live music in pubs = better atmosphere = more viable pubs R |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: GUEST,Trix Date: 02 Dec 04 - 10:35 PM Really enjoyed the Tuesday session this week, even though I suffered usual nerves playing .Thanks to the lovely Tom for being so kind. |

Seriously, though, the workshop is intended for people at all levels of competence and confidence (the two aren't necessarily the same) and I hope that everyone feels able to join in and have a go. I enjoyed their playing a few months back along with several other good turns as I recall. Please put up details ASAP. Merry Christmas One and All. |

Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 19 Jan 05 - 03:15 PM Jo & Grahams session on Friday, the big Sunday session this Sunday from 3pm until we all get fed up. Shaun the Landlord (unlike Sam Smiths) has now paid his PRS/PPL bill which I have seen and which includes elements for both background music and the live sessions! I told him that he was being conned as most of what we play isn't in copywrite but he says that he doesn't want to risk losing the live music so he has paid up. Roger |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: GUEST,Graham and Jo Date: 20 Jan 05 - 03:13 AM Sean has confirmed full support for the session. No bands are booked for Fridays and no bands will be booked for Fridays. What happens at this session? Sets of Irish/traditional music, but also every kind of music and song is performed and appreciated. Everyone who wants to gets to do things. |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 20 Jan 05 - 05:34 AM I will be there on Sunday Rog. |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 20 Jan 05 - 09:27 AM Good man Michael. Since Shaun is prepared to stump up for the PRS/PPL costs to run live music in the Sun it would be nice if lots of people can come along to show our appreciation. Rog |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: ossonflags Date: 20 Jan 05 - 10:03 AM You got it right there Rog!! |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 21 Jan 05 - 11:30 AM It is interesting that Shaun, who is by no means a fan of the music, has taken the purely commercial decision that to lose the sessions would be the death knell of the pub. Hence, he has paid out for the PRS/PPL simply because he thinks that he will make more money with us there than he pays out to have us there - exactly the opposite to Sam smiths decision. R |
Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 22 Jan 05 - 07:05 AM Anyway, we are in the Sun from 3pm tomorrow for our Sunday session. Be there or be a rectangular thing. R |

Subject: RE: Sun rises again in Beverley From: Sir Roger de Beverley Date: 24 Mar 05 - 05:45 AM This Sunday our session will be time limited to around 7 - 7.30pm finish. This is to allow time for a band to set up for an evening performance. They are a heavy rock group who have been booked as part of a birthday celebration in the pub that night. This is a one-off as Shaun, the landlord, is normally more than happy for us to carry on playing until closing time and he doesn't plan to book acts on a Sunday night (see Harri Watts thread for Sat 2nd April) So, its no good turning up at 7pm hoping to play until 11pm this week. We start at 3pm - be there then eh? R |
