I just did at Krogers about an hour ago. I was buying apples and looking at what kind they were and actually on the damn sign at Krogers there were instructions on their use. I am not kidding!! It said: Wash, eat by hand, or slice up, and make sure to remove the core. Now I ask you, first, how damn stupid do you have to be to need instructions on the consumption of an apple. second, just why in the hell does Kroger feel the need to include instructions on apple usage? Third, do that many people consume the cores and is this a serious problem? OK I feel better getting that off my chest. Thanks Martin

I started to deteriorate about two seconds after I was born and I realized that I was suddenly in a big, COLD, bright, scary room and I'd just been swatted by somebody and I hadn't even done anything yet. Been going downhill ever since.

But yes... hearing Christmas songs in October or seeing Christmas gift ideas/wrapping in August usually get me after about 30 seconds.

I am turning into a mad old woman who constantly argues with imaginary people in shops..... "mutter mutter, where the hell did you put the peas this week? What the f&^% is that doing here, it's only bloody August!" and so on. Soon I shall be purchasing a tartan shopping trolley with which to cripple people and squash small dogs.

I am not at all worried about Bush and his Christianity. he is not a forever type of thing.

When people play music too loud, or too fast. Bugger all the organists in churches who seem to believe that God is hard of hearing. Likewise all the showy guitarist who keep doing ridiculous runs, trying to draw attention away from the singer and the rest of the band. Ditto for jerks that play their radios so loud in their cars that the fenders rattle. Maybe becoming hard of hearing isn't such a curse, after all.

I have a photo of a little friend showing the remainder of the apple she had eaten. She was holding the stem and a few threads of the core. My mom was so impressed, she took a picture of it. Never saw anyone do that again but, heh - she must have learned it from someone.

Martin, I'm a little worried about the new media jargon defining the U.S. as blue or red states. Rather divisive, don't you think? Last night, at a concert, the performer dedicated a song to us in New York as a blue state. Reminds me of the South & the North prior to the Civil War. Silly me. I thought we were one country & had one president. Yup, 2-party system & provision for change of power every four years, but, for now, George Bush is our duly elected leader. I worry that, not I, but the country is deteriorating.

It's my 48th birthday today and I've been 'celebrating' at my local Rugby Club this afternoon so havn't read all the posts..

I woke at three o'clock this morning sufering from raging toothache from the right side of my mouth, went out this afternoon and lost a crown from the left side. I guess the answer is 'sometime on or just before your 48th birthday'.

I start to deteriorate when I have been wrongly accused and fined $40 for a traffic violation in a city, on a street I haven't driven on in years.

To add insult to injury, in order to dispute the ticket, it seems that I will have to appear in court in person, which involves a double ferry crossing which will cost me more than twice the amount of the fine, not including time off work for a full day.

I'm hoping they will send me a copy of the original ticket on which they've based the supposed traffic violation, but I have to wait until Monday and stew until then. The damned thing is I can't think of any way to prove I wasn't on the mainland on that date at the time the infraction was supposed to have occurred.

Seems to me something like this could be a profitable scam for the City of Vancouver to run, when their coffers get down. Pull a licence plate number out of the hat and ticket some vehicle not on the lower mainland, so as to make it not financially viable or worthwhile to protest. Hummph!

and as for that traffic ticket...METCHOSIN..did you do anything that you can trace on that day? make a purchase? write a check? anything that you might have a receipt for? work? show yourself present or accounted for in the place you were? witnesses? use a credit card? make a phone call
that can be shown on your bill? anything that shows you were where you were...you should be able to get info on the name and badge number of the officer who issues the ticket....good luck!

Nope, already checked, the only trace of anything I did that day was make a post to Mudcat, at the time of the offense, regarding Harvey the giant rabbit being a pooka. I have a sinking feeling that my nom de plume comment about Harvey wouldn't be enough. I made no financial or other transactions.

I could have locked my office, torn out of the house in the morning after my husband left for his meetings, driven to the ferry, then to Vancouver, illegally parked for a few minutes and then driven back to the ferry terminal and arrived back in Victoria in time to have dinner with him and our friends at 6:00PM. Stupid way to spend a day but......

Only thing I can hope for is that there is a vehicle description written on the original ticket, because if there is, it won't square with my plate number.
