Subject: Linda Thompson information? From: MurkeyChris Date: 19 Nov 04 - 09:40 PM Hi guys, I'm a massive Richard and Linda Thompson fan, and Linda's comeback album, Fashionably Late, is amazing. But does anyone know how to find out info about her, particularly tour dates? She doesn't seem to have a website. I know she's toured other countries, and that she was due for the Cambridge Folk Fest but had to pull out, but when is she going to come to the UK proper? I'm seeing her son and daughter, Teddy and Kamila Thompson in London tomorrow, kinda hoping she might pop up! Murk Cool as Folk - online British folk radio (where you might just hear some Linda!) |

Subject: RE: Linda Thompson information? From: Susanne (skw) Date: 21 Nov 04 - 05:27 PM Chris, sorry I can't help you, but maybe you can help me: A friend is asking me for info on Linda and Richard's first band, called the Sour Grapes (or so he says). I'd never heard the name. Do you happen to know anything about them? |

Subject: RE: Linda Thompson information? From: GUEST,David fromSydney Date: 21 Nov 04 - 05:38 PM Hi Susanne I read in "Strange Affair" (the RT biography), that Sour Grapes was formed in around 1972 after Richard had made his first solo album and before he and Linda recorded "Bright Lights". It was initially Richard and Simon Nicol on guitars with Linda on vocals. The combination of Richard and Simon on acoustic guitars seems to work quite well. There are a number of unofficial recordings around from shows like the Richard Digance show, and a rather nice one from about 1981. At some stage they did add drums and bass and tour as a full band I believe, but the trio linup seems to have been the longest lived. It seems to have been an informal sort of arrangement which they used as an alternative to touring as the "Richard and Linda Thompson Band" Hope this helps David |

Subject: RE: Linda Thompson information? From: Kevin Sheils Date: 25 Nov 04 - 10:51 AM I recall seeing them as "Sour Grapes" around that time in London at "New Merlin's Cave" Margery Street near the Gray's Inn Road unless my memory is playing up. I think that they may have played there on a couple of occasions. |
