Mike is about to go on a very worthy cause to Romania.

I would like to wish him and all that travel with him, good luck and a safe journey.

Safe journey Mike. A mate of mine did a similar trip just after they got shot of Ceaucescu. He said it was the most humbling and worthwhile thing he'd ever done. Good luck, mate!

WOW, I did not expect this!!
Thank you Les for starting the thread and thanks to you all for your best wishes.
To keep you up to date:- I bought a couple of pairs of Long-johns yesterday and will be buying a -22 degrees sleeping bag this week.
It is a real adventure for me and will allow me to see...first hand...the plight of the street kids.
Apparently we are taking much more than I thought...there are over 2000 shoe boxes of goodies and nearly as many wrapped presents to distribute.
I will update when I return and hopefully get some photos on here.

Mike - If you wear conventional underpants beneath the long johns - you can get a solid fortnight out of them before you start receiving complaints. Just a though to speed you on your way.

My nephew has spent a lot of time in Rumania as did his fiance. She served in the Peace Corps there. Their descriptions of orphanage children are heartbreaking. You are doing a very good thing. Stay warm and safe yourself.

They will be turned backwards, inside out and round and round as the days go by...they may even need washing when I get home.......




I am joking of course but I have bought a couple of pairs of long-johns to ward off the cold.

You could try wearing ladies tights as well. This is very effective in cold climes but a bit impractical unless you incorporate access in the top.

By the way and I don't know if this is helpful - if you have a flame-effect gas fire, (they are rubbish as heaters but not bad as ornaments) the only beneficiaries are the bastard sea gulls that perch around the chimney pot, immune to the carbon monoxide and consuming my thermal energy from the exhaust. What I do is net and stun the warmed seabirds and stuff them into my ladies tights. Better than a hot water bottle any day.

Yes Dave, I did try the tights once when in a panto but can't say I like the feel of them( ON ME ANYWAY!!!).

Awwww, I am really going to miss you all and my "fix" of Folk Music.
