They have the technology. They can make a banjo bigger, louder, heavier.

She's breaking up... She's breaking up...

That is the second-largest banjo I have ever seen.

Shit! That must be that big brother banjo all those little banjos threatened me with all through the years. I better add another ten pounds on the bench press tomorrow.

If you think that one's big, you should see the bass banjo in the entry hall at Elderly Instruments! The body was originally a bass drum, and as I recall it must be at least two feet in diameter! Maybe two and a half. I have no idea what it might sound like, though.

Well, the Gibson Co. in about 1924 made at least one 24" bass banjo with their latest (pre-Mastertone) tone ring, and later made at least one real Mastertone bass banjo (though not 24", as I recall).

Both were 4-stringers, as is proper for a bass. Them extra strings are just silly, and confusing as well.

I love the part where he says, It's not as loud as I had hoped, but I have some ideas on how to improve that.

That's a joke, right?

Aloha,
Mark

There used to be a bass banjo in the window of a violin maker in Cardiff (UK)

It may still be there, I haven't been down that street for years.

I saw a similar beast with its own bluegrass band,I think made from a bass drum, at Dent festival two or three years back.
