Thursday, 2 December at 11.30 a.m. on BBC Radio 4.

Debbie Kilbride presents a half-hour documentary programme on the Irish music, its musicians and its supporters in The Favourite, off Holloway Road, London, during the 1960s and 1970s.

Please spread the word.

Sounds interesting, I know that Reg Hall has asked Karen Ryan to circulate info to her mailing lists. I'm hoping that there will be some of Reg's archive recordings that didn't make it to the "Paddy In The Smoke" LP and CD

Spent many a happy Sunday lunchtime there in the 60's and 70's. Of course, Dave, they've knocked the pub down now to build the new Ar****l stadium.

From the Radio Times:

When a small pub in North London was demolished to make way for
Aresnal's new stadium, part of the history of two generations of
Irish migrants and musicans went with it. Through interviews and
archive recordings, Debbie Kilbride reconstructs The Favourite -
a landmark in the story of her father's generation and of Irish
music in Britain.

Coincidentally, Peta Webb who was among some of us who misspent our Sundays at the Favourite, will be at Islington Folk Club that very evening.

Will the new stadium echo late at night with the ghostly sounds of the Blarney Pilgrim?

And whilst you've got the Radio on, if you're in London, I'll be presenting the Traditional Music Hour on Resonance 104.4FM from 2.00 to 3.00 GMT (Peta is also a sometime presenter as well as the whole show being Reg Hall's original inspiration to add a topical connection for this thread)

Non Londoners can listen on the internet at their web site. I have also started a web site with my past play lists and some info on the show if you'd like to see what you might hear on my show. Only my most recent playlist is there at present but more will be soon.
