Since the Mudgather at Banbury was so good and we are all looking forward to TWO at Bedworth, would it be a nice idea to organise one for Sidmouth 2005 as well? There should be loads of us there.

Love Lynne

I think we had enough mud at the Festival a couple of years ago Lynne. The organisers comandeered my tractor to help tow cars and caravans out of the car park.

I'll be at Sidmouth next year.
The Social Dance Director, Ray Goodswen, has organised 3 venues and a programme of dances and workshops. I'll be there with the band Stradivarious.

So, what's a Mudgather (I can guess).

Well I will, of course, be spending most of mine in the Middle Bar, but that doesn't mean we can't manage a Mudgather.

Mitch, a Mudgather is a get together of Mudcatters. Great fun!

Lynne,

The pub on the corner of Dove Lane is handy for The Anchor and The Newt so perhaps a Mudcat drop-in might be an idea or would music and song in said pub break a long standing tradition.

Are Anchor people allowed to say the name?

I know mention of the Anchor calls for a fine in the pub I am thinking of.

Yes Dave, it's ok for MBSers to say the Dove but not ok the other way around...as I have cause to know...I spend half my time outside, spinning round and spitting! And unfortunately music and song are frequently perpetrated in the Dove these days. I'm not sure, though, that it needs to be a sing. There are plenty of those around (we hope!) The reason the Dove used to be a music-free zone was so that everyone could go and meet friends and have a natter and a break from music if they needed it. Sounds like a good idea still.

Mike...you didn't invite US!!

So...sounds like a good idea then?

Well lynne if the idea takes off there may me some new faces in The Dove if I were to put my head round the door (as I sometimes do) between sessions.

However we see a lot of these guys anyway - the bunch at Cllrs (semi) open house for example and a number of other MBS mudcatters so it may all happen naturally.

Luv 'n stuff

Alanww

I'd have thought the obvious Committee member to take this up would be Tony Day. After all, those Catters who turn up will be the ones who have voted with their feet to make 2005 a good festival, not the ones who just made negative comments from a distance.

Will there be chocolate? Or should it be fudge? Or possibly even a Mudcat cream tea?

New Land Rover? Bloomin' show-off. I'll be there with very old Land Rover (if it's stopped leaking oil, it's probably empty). Probably only able to make the first half of the festival, though - so if the MudGather's at that end of the week that'll be grand.

Lynne - the Dove is STILL non-music. You have had to turn round three times widdershins and spit for less! It is a haven of peace and tranquility (or at least, it was!) - and the only pub where you can watch a test match without interference!

Perhaps a mudgather in the top bar at the Scottish Place?

epn - a long sitting(?!) Doveite!

I think anyone who's looking forward to being at Sidmouth next year and is working to make it an enjoyable event would be pretty hacked off at some of the negative comments being posted to other threads.

Alanww asked a question and I answered it. Tony Day happens to be the Committee member responsible for co-ordinating singarounds at Sidmouth 2005. He's also a member of Mudcat who is still posting info to the appropriate threads when there is positive info to post. I would expect him to appreciate that anyone who wants to attend a Mudgather in Sidmouth next Folk Week has a positive reason for attending. (I think he might even have enjoyed the previous gathers if he'd been there, because all the other MBS Mudcatters did....)

So if we want the Mudgather to be a singaround with chocolate it would make sense to let TD know....

Could be worth a try....it wasn't too far out in the days when it was open till four or five in the morning!! Are the currents licensees likely to welcome us? The skittle alley place at the back could be perfect if it's still there. I haven't been in for years.

I e-mailed TD. He thinks a Mudgather is a good idea as long as it doesn't clash with the Middle Bar sessions, so he is inviting suggestions for where and when.

From the above posts I reckon it can't be Thursday afternoon (singing in the sea, probably followed by DG&D) or Friday (Vectis will have gone to Broadstairs).

The Balfour is a bit of a trek - it was OK for late night sessions if you were heading back to the campsite afterwards.

The Volly will be in use for the lunchtime "in the tradition" sessions as usual.

Terri (Morticia),

So you don't think a blast of sea air, thermos of coffee, paraceamol, or a hip flask full of your favourite tipple will cure your hangover.

Failing that, if you are using Cllr's accomodation again, take a bottle of something up there and stay drunk! :-)

Mr Greenhaus,

Firstly it will be in Sidmouth (I thought that was clear enough)in Devon!

As to when, a lot of us will be there for a weekend in February and know exactly when so I suppose there was no need to be that specific.

The original proposition from Lynne was for "The First Week In August" which has a very specific meaning to us.

We know what it is all about and those who don't won't be involved.

Sorry if there has been a breach of etiquette but it was a bunch of friends chatting among themselves.

Dick's right.

We shouldn't be parochial. However, as far as I know, Dick goes to Whitby when he comes to England in August (in the week running up to the last Monday in August), and hasn't so far had the opportunity to enjoy the Sidmouth experience (which runs round the first Monday in August).

Just because the management of the Sidmouth (hitherto International) Festival will be different next year doesn't mean we shouldn't have an international contingent. I hope that we will see old friends again, and welcome new ones, between 29 July and 5 August 2005. And anyone who can make it for the 18-20 February reunion weekend.
