Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Tattie Bogle Date: 09 Dec 04 - 08:40 PM Sorry - late entry to this thread. Where is the "Scottish place" ?: sounds like I should be there. Could it be the "Balfour" as there was a certain Balfour in "Kidnapped" by RLS? Will it bring me years of bad luck as for actors who forget to talk about the "Scottish Play" and actually say M*cb*th?? Re Hymns: we had a "Gospel song session" on Sunday morning at a recent Scottish Festival which went down a treat with everyone, most of whom had probably not been to church in years. Just an idea?? Hope to get down for some of it, though restrictions on Annual leave may preclude this coming year. as mentioned in another e-venue (MBS) TB |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 09 Dec 04 - 04:42 AM Dear Guest speakers, This thread was to be about a Mudcat gathering in 2005 your information, news etc can be addressed to the other trhreads but:- 1 Yes 2005 will be an "interim" thing but everybody is also looking to 2006 and onwards. 2 If you read the latest newsletter you will see that there will be more than the pub sessions and the Wurzels in 2005. 3 The newsletter also indicates how far the Steering group has got regarding funding, licences etc. 4 The Steering group have a wealth of experience between them and know what they are doing and what is going to be required. Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Anne Croucher Date: 08 Dec 04 - 06:06 PM The Pavillion cafe bar sessions finish at three, and it is a rather civilised venue - and also warm and dry if the weather choses to be more thunder and hailstones than balmy breezes and a few fluffy clouds. If it is available next year it might be wise to consider as either first choice or first reserve for bad weather. I have decided to be in Sidmouth so have not been reading any Sidmouth threads for some time - I am not sure what is available. Anne |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Manitas_at_home Date: 08 Dec 04 - 03:42 PM Which is just what they want! The Middle Bar Singers, the Radway Musicians, the morris dancers and the social dancers ie the doers can carry on as they do each year, there is an event acting as a placeholder so that venues don't get booked out for something else, at least two pubs and a few cafes get more revenue than normal but there are so few of them that it should become obvious whether or not the other traders need the income generated by the festival. Everyone should be pleased! |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Sidmouth Resident Date: 08 Dec 04 - 07:49 AM Manitas. I think the lights went out with the departure of Steve Heap and Mrs. Casey Music who organised a brilliant 'farewell' festival in 2004. The people planning Sidmouth 2005 really only want a few pub sessions in The Anchor and a few dance sessions in chilly church halls well away from the town centre. That's their choice. They never liked the 'big-name' concerts in the Arena and the Ham Marquee or the noisy concerts in the Bowd. They frowned on 'professional' folk singers and musicians and hated the way Sidmouth had grown to be THE festival of the year. So let's leave them to host their own little gathering of Middle Bar Singers in 2005. The rest of us need to start looking to 2006 and finding the funding and the professional organisers capable of re-launching the REAL Sidmouth festival. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: manitas_at_work Date: 08 Dec 04 - 06:17 AM Now you've got the nutters out of this place you want to get others out of Sidmouth, is that it? Make sure someone can pop round to switch off the lights, won't you. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Sidmouth Festival Fan Date: 07 Dec 04 - 11:39 PM At last! Now we've finally got rid of those nutters and their loony idea of a 2005 festival headlined by The Wurzels (I ask you!) maybe we can start having a rational discussion about how we get a proper festival back into Sidmouth in 2006. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: My guru always said Date: 07 Dec 04 - 06:28 PM I agree with El Greko to an extent, but understand the need to decamp. Don't use the other place really myself, so could a kind Cat please keep me informed. Actually thinking a bit more about it, it's awful that we can't talk about a MudCatters Gather on the MudCat itself. Shameful really! |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: George Papavgeris Date: 07 Dec 04 - 05:39 PM Seems to me the word Sidm**th is like a red rag to a bull for some people. I don't think you'll be rid of them easily, because a new thread would have to be named aptly (or it would not attract attention). Just have to ignore the trolls and get on with it. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 07 Dec 04 - 12:25 PM Yes Terri lets take it to the other place. I suppose I am at fault as well for allowing myself to respond to our (not) friend. Dave |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Morticia Date: 07 Dec 04 - 12:18 PM For my part, I'd be glad to see an end to this sorry thread though I think it's a great pity we can't just talk like civilised adults.By all means, lets take it elsewhere and hope it stays there. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 07 Dec 04 - 12:15 PM Well Bud because of the interference of the Twit it has been suggested that the details of this proposed gathering would be better discussed elsewhere. The MBS (Middle bar Singers) people contributing to this Tread will know where to look for further information and any non MBS types thinking of attending the gathering can use PM or private e-mail to one or other of us. Lynne,Kitty,Phot,Cllr,Morticia and the rest I hope it is not presumptious of me to put out details of what has been suggested by the "Bench". Dave |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 07 Dec 04 - 11:58 AM I think there's more than one twitting troll to be fair |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Bud from Ohio Date: 07 Dec 04 - 11:55 AM Well it certainly sounds like you Brits are at each other's throats. But I sure like your vocabulary Breton Cap. TWIT OF A TROLL would make a great name for a song or a band. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 07 Dec 04 - 09:40 AM No Bud we're not slagging each other off. It just some twit of a troll that we are having a go at. Most of the rest of us are friends. Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Bud from Ohio Date: 07 Dec 04 - 09:20 AM Hey are you guys still slagging each other off? Why do you bother? Your Sidmouth Festival sounds really weird! |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Cllr Date: 06 Dec 04 - 08:28 PM what guru said |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: My guru always said Date: 06 Dec 04 - 02:01 PM Lynne Honey, don't feed the trolls *smile* |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: MBSLynne Date: 06 Dec 04 - 01:26 PM And your point is? |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Guest Date: 06 Dec 04 - 01:26 PM "Tony Day is the little bird!!!!. Tweet, Tweet." Substitute the two e's in "Tweet" to one i. |

Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: MBSLynne Date: 06 Dec 04 - 09:44 AM A little bird told me that the Swan garden may have a canvas roof next year..... |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Phot at work Date: 06 Dec 04 - 07:46 AM Lynne, the Volly sound a good bet, but do they have anything on at the same time? The garden of the Swan would be great, provided the sun shines, but this Sidders in August, so expect snow! Wassail!! Chris |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: MBSLynne Date: 06 Dec 04 - 07:28 AM First and second time Mudcatter, I think Sherlock was probably addressing our resident GUEST troll, not you. You're question, however, would probably be better put on the "Sidmouth information" thread rather than this one, which is only about the idea and possibilities of a Mudgather at Sidmouth 2005, not about the festival in general. Love Lynne |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Second-time Mudcatter Date: 06 Dec 04 - 06:39 AM Sherlock, why can't you just answer my question? I'm not giving my name because I don't want the abuse others have suffered here. As an MBS regular I've asked an honest question. Now can I please have an honest answer. Thank you. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Scooby Doo Date: 06 Dec 04 - 04:14 AM Why not Lynne???. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: MBSLynne Date: 06 Dec 04 - 03:04 AM Why not Yas? |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,Sherlock Date: 06 Dec 04 - 01:44 AM Guest, your (sorry, you're) less anonymous than you think. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST,First-time Mudcatter Date: 05 Dec 04 - 10:15 PM Getting back to something sensible... Now that local councils have responsibility for licensing public houses and the 'two-in-a-bar' rule no longer applies, can anyone tell me whether The Anchor, The Volunteer, The Bedford et al have received their new licences yet from East Devon Council? Will the Council be as strict on enforcing licensing regulations in public houses as they are threatening to be with the arena, campsites, marquees etc.? |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Scooby Doo Date: 05 Dec 04 - 03:08 PM Eye lander, dont get upsey with people who call themselves guest. Scooby |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 05 Dec 04 - 02:50 PM Is that you Jilly? I am having a boring afternoon at work and seem to have allowed myself to get annoyed with whoever it is. You are probably right. Lets just take oursevles off to Sidders and have a good time in both Feb and Aug. Dave |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Eye Lander Date: 05 Dec 04 - 02:46 PM How about we ignore comments from those who stay behind the guise of 'Guest' . I enjoyed my last Mudcat gather and there were alot of us there, filling a large room, probably large than the Volly bar. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 05 Dec 04 - 02:45 PM Yes I know him well. What has he told you? Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 05 Dec 04 - 02:41 PM I will just Mention Tony Day!!!!!!!!. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 05 Dec 04 - 02:26 PM I said when you have a point to make. Whether it is my personal first or the first at Sidmouth does not alter the fact that your information is incomplete or at least not up to date. No come out from behind Guest and make some sort of worthwhile comment Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 05 Dec 04 - 02:18 PM This will be your first MudCAT gathering i believe!!!!!!!!!. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 05 Dec 04 - 01:54 PM Guest You need to get your facts right. A newsletter has been produced that shows that what you are saying is incorrect. Look up the newsletter (produced in the last few days) and then, if you still have a point to make, come back in some identifiable form and share it with us. Dave Earl |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 05 Dec 04 - 01:37 PM No it will only be a fringe festival what ever happens. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Herga Kitty Date: 05 Dec 04 - 01:13 PM Calendars don't confer existence. The festival will happen. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 05 Dec 04 - 12:49 PM It will only be a small gathering of Mudcatters anyway so why bother Ted?.All this fuss for a fringe festival that may not exist in the events calender next year. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: el_punkoid_nouveau Date: 05 Dec 04 - 12:44 PM Good point Kitty - the bar in the Volly is also big enough to cope. epn |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 05 Dec 04 - 12:42 PM Cats are use to the RAIN,LOL. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Herga Kitty Date: 05 Dec 04 - 12:39 PM Swan garden probably not a good idea if it rains.... maybe Volunteer would be better? Kitty |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 05 Dec 04 - 11:36 AM Sounds wonderful where ever you hold it as i wont be with you!!!!!!!. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: Dave Earl Date: 05 Dec 04 - 10:55 AM Swan Garden would get my support (it's a place that a lot of us MBS people migrate to anyway) I agree time between 4 & 6 seems best. Early in the week for those not staying all week would be best so Tuseday would be good. What you say Lynne leads me to believe you may have read something somewhere else (deliberatley cryptic but probably decipherable to other interested people)!!! Dave |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: MBSLynne Date: 05 Dec 04 - 10:31 AM Ok..suggestion. 4-6 one afternoon, so avoiding clashing with any of the other sessions. Possibly Tuesday afternoon. The Volunteer may be an idea, or the garden of the Swan perhaps? What does everyone think? Once we've decided we can put it to the 'management' and probably get it as a 'programmed' event. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 04 Dec 04 - 02:00 PM No ,its me the Troll, get off my patch. |
Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth? From: GUEST Date: 04 Dec 04 - 12:43 PM I can laugh last as your laughing at the wrong Troll, lol. |
