Ok..suggestion. 4-6 one afternoon, so avoiding clashing with any of the other sessions. Possibly Tuesday afternoon. The Volunteer may be an idea, or the garden of the Swan perhaps? What does everyone think? Once we've decided we can put it to the 'management' and probably get it as a 'programmed' event.

Swan Garden would get my support (it's a place that a lot of us MBS people migrate to anyway)

I agree time between 4 & 6 seems best.

Early in the week for those not staying all week would be best so Tuseday would be good.

What you say Lynne leads me to believe you may have read something somewhere else (deliberatley cryptic but probably decipherable to other interested people)!!!

It will only be a small gathering of Mudcatters anyway so why bother Ted?.All this fuss for a fringe festival that may not exist in the events calender next year.

You need to get your facts right.

A newsletter has been produced that shows that what you are saying is incorrect.

Look up the newsletter (produced in the last few days) and then, if you still have a point to make, come back in some identifiable form and share it with us.

Getting back to something sensible...

Now that local councils have responsibility for licensing public houses and the 'two-in-a-bar' rule no longer applies, can anyone tell me whether The Anchor, The Volunteer, The Bedford et al have received their new licences yet from East Devon Council?

Will the Council be as strict on enforcing licensing regulations in public houses as they are threatening to be with the arena, campsites, marquees etc.?

First and second time Mudcatter, I think Sherlock was probably addressing our resident GUEST troll, not you. You're question, however, would probably be better put on the "Sidmouth information" thread rather than this one, which is only about the idea and possibilities of a Mudgather at Sidmouth 2005, not about the festival in general.

Lynne, the Volly sound a good bet, but do they have anything on at the same time? The garden of the Swan would be great, provided the sun shines, but this Sidders in August, so expect snow!

Well Bud because of the interference of the Twit it has been suggested that the details of this proposed gathering would be better discussed elsewhere.

The MBS (Middle bar Singers) people contributing to this Tread will know where to look for further information and any non MBS types thinking of attending the gathering can use PM or private e-mail to one or other of us.

Lynne,Kitty,Phot,Cllr,Morticia and the rest I hope it is not presumptious of me to put out details of what has been suggested by the "Bench".

Seems to me the word Sidm**th is like a red rag to a bull for some people. I don't think you'll be rid of them easily, because a new thread would have to be named aptly (or it would not attract attention). Just have to ignore the trolls and get on with it.

I agree with El Greko to an extent, but understand the need to decamp. Don't use the other place really myself, so could a kind Cat please keep me informed.

Actually thinking a bit more about it, it's awful that we can't talk about a MudCatters Gather on the MudCat itself. Shameful really!

At last! Now we've finally got rid of those nutters and their loony idea of a 2005 festival headlined by The Wurzels (I ask you!) maybe we can start having a rational discussion about how we get a proper festival back into Sidmouth in 2006.

Now you've got the nutters out of this place you want to get others out of Sidmouth, is that it? Make sure someone can pop round to switch off the lights, won't you.

Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth?
From: GUEST,Sidmouth Resident

Manitas. I think the lights went out with the departure of Steve Heap and Mrs. Casey Music who organised a brilliant 'farewell' festival in 2004.

The people planning Sidmouth 2005 really only want a few pub sessions in The Anchor and a few dance sessions in chilly church halls well away from the town centre. That's their choice. They never liked the 'big-name' concerts in the Arena and the Ham Marquee or the noisy concerts in the Bowd. They frowned on 'professional' folk singers and musicians and hated the way Sidmouth had grown to be THE festival of the year.

So let's leave them to host their own little gathering of Middle Bar Singers in 2005. The rest of us need to start looking to 2006 and finding the funding and the professional organisers capable of re-launching the REAL Sidmouth festival.

Post - Top - Home - Printer Friendly - Translate

Subject: RE: Mudgather Sidmouth?
From: Manitas_at_home

Which is just what they want! The Middle Bar Singers, the Radway Musicians, the morris dancers and the social dancers ie the doers can carry on as they do each year, there is an event acting as a placeholder so that venues don't get booked out for something else, at least two pubs and a few cafes get more revenue than normal but there are so few of them that it should become obvious whether or not the other traders need the income generated by the festival. Everyone should be pleased!

The Pavillion cafe bar sessions finish at three, and it is a rather civilised venue - and also warm and dry if the weather choses to be more thunder and hailstones than balmy breezes and a few fluffy clouds.

If it is available next year it might be wise to consider as either first choice or first reserve for bad weather.

I have decided to be in Sidmouth so have not been reading any Sidmouth threads for some time - I am not sure what is available.

Anne

Dear Guest speakers,

This thread was to be about a Mudcat gathering in 2005 your information, news etc can be addressed to the other trhreads but:-

1 Yes 2005 will be an "interim" thing but everybody is also looking to 2006 and onwards.

2 If you read the latest newsletter you will see that there will be more than the pub sessions and the Wurzels in 2005.

3 The newsletter also indicates how far the Steering group has got regarding funding, licences etc.

4 The Steering group have a wealth of experience between them and know what they are doing and what is going to be required.

Sorry - late entry to this thread. Where is the "Scottish place" ?: sounds like I should be there. Could it be the "Balfour" as there was a certain Balfour in "Kidnapped" by RLS? Will it bring me years of bad luck as for actors who forget to talk about the "Scottish Play" and actually say M*cb*th??
Re Hymns: we had a "Gospel song session" on Sunday morning at a recent Scottish Festival which went down a treat with everyone, most of whom had probably not been to church in years. Just an idea??
Hope to get down for some of it, though restrictions on Annual leave may preclude this coming year. as mentioned in another e-venue (MBS)
