Subject: Some Little Bug From: Felipa Date: 18 Nov 98 - 01:41 PM I'm looking for the words of a song.I tried the DigiTrad and I tried a forum search for the title "Some Little Bug" under 'subject'. It's a song about how you'll die anyway no matter how healthily you live - "if you eat a bowl of spinach, that will surely be the finish" , things like that. the chorus goes (approx. at least): Some little bug is gonna get you someday Some little bug is gonna get you someway Then he'll call for all his friends And all your trouble ends, Some little bug is gonna get you someday. the song has been recorded by Sara Grey and Ellie Ellis and I first heard that recording in 1985. Subject: Lyr Add: SOME LITTLE BUG IS GOIN' TO GET (Kincaid) From: Dale Rose Date: 18 Nov 98 - 05:16 PM It goes back quite a bit farther than that, at least to Bradley Kincaid in the 30s. This is from Old Homestead album 107. SOME LITTLE BUG IS GOIN' TO GET YOU SOME DAY As sung by Bradley Kincaid In these days of indigestion, it’s oftentimes a question As to what to eat and what to leave alone. For each microbe and bacillus has a different way to kill us And in time they always claim us for their own. There are germs of every kind in any food that you can find In the market or upon a bill of fare. Drinking water’s just as risky as the so-called deadly whiskey And it’s often a mistake to breathe the air. For some little bug is going to find you someday, Some little bug will creep behind you someday, Then he’ll send for his bug friends and all your trouble ends, Some little bug is going to find you someday. The inviting green cucumber gets most everybody’s number While the green corn has a system of its own. Though the radish seems nutritious, its behavior is quite vicious And a doctor will be coming to your home. Eating lobster cooked or plain is only flirting with ptomaine While an oyster sometimes has a lot to say. But the clams we eat in chowder make the angels sing the louder For they know that we’ll be with them right away. When cold storage vaults I visit, I can only say what is it Makes poor mortals fill their systems with such stuff? Now for breakfast prunes are dandy, if a stomach pump is handy And your doctor can be found quite soon enough. Eat a plate of fine pig's knuckles and the headstone cutter chuckles While the gravedigger makes a note upon his cuff. Eat that lovely red bologna and you’ll wear a wood kimono As your relatives start scrapping ‘bout your stuff. For some little bug is going to find you someday, Some little bug will creep behind you someday, Eating juicy sliced pineapple makes the sexton dust the chapel, Some little bug is going to find you someday. All those crazy foods they mix will float us cross the river Styx Or they’ll start us climbing up the Milky Way. And the meals we eat in courses mean a hearse and two black horses So before a meal, some people always pray. Luscious grapes breed ‘pendicitis and the juice leads to gastritis So there’s only death to greet us either way. And fried liver’s nice, but mind you, friends will soon ride slow behind you And the papers then will have nice things to say. For some little bug is going to find you someday, Some little bug will creep behind you someday, Eat some sauce they call it chili, on your breast they’ll place a lily, Some little bug is going to find you someday. |
Subject: RE: Some Little Bug From: Dale Rose Date: 18 Nov 98 - 05:24 PM Hmmmm. copying and pasting brs instead of hrs would have made that look a bit more normal, though I may start a whole new fad in html methods here. |
Subject: RE: Some Little Bug From: rich r Date: 18 Nov 98 - 05:44 PM Sally Rogers has also recorded this song, but alas it does not qualify as an insect song. rich r |
Subject: RE: Some Little Bug From: dick greenhaus Date: 18 Nov 98 - 05:50 PM I guess we're not getting the message across. The easiest way to find a song with the phrase "some little bug" is to search for [some little bug]. And Voila! There it is! |
Subject: RE: Some Little Bug From: Dale Rose Date: 18 Nov 98 - 05:55 PM Sorry, Dick. I did not look since she said she had not found it. That took a while, too, mistakes and all. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Some Little Bug Is Going To Find You From: BobL Date: 25 Mar 20 - 02:48 AM This would have made a nicely topical song for the next session. Except of course there aren't any sessions at the moment. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Some Little Bug Is Going To Find You From: Felipa Date: 25 Mar 20 - 06:44 PM BobL, I was thinking that a year or two from now, it might be time for our singing circle to have a session focussing on songs of this sort - songs about the flu, the plague and Corona. (what songs are there re HIV pandemic?) |
