Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: John MacKenzie Date: 17 Dec 04 - 08:34 AM Please be sure that the hospital is not letting him out too soon under threat from impending carol singing Mudcatters! Giok ;~0 Seriously though, great news. |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Essex Girl Date: 17 Dec 04 - 07:55 AM Kevin, if you ever heard me try to play the guitar you wouldn't say that. I can pick a few tunes on the penny whistle & recorder and strum a few chords on my autoharp, otherwise it's percussion. But as Dave says we can always do harmonies. All being well he should be out by Wednesday. |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 16 Dec 04 - 08:04 PM Till your right arm is back you could always try having Essex Girl do that bit on the guitar, and you just do the left hand. |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Leadfingers Date: 16 Dec 04 - 07:57 PM Keep at it Dave - Failing all else , you could always become a 'Trad' singer and do unnaccomplished stuff !! |

Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Wilfried Schaum Date: 16 Dec 04 - 04:46 AM So glad to read this, Dave - and my congratulations that you are still able to sing. I have learned to live without a guitar (bad wrist), but having lost my ability to sing still grieves me every day. So be glad, lucky one! Best wishes for your recovery, and remember - patience! Wilfried |

Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Dave Bryant Date: 15 Dec 04 - 06:20 PM Tue 14th Dec Here I am again. Linda's recharged my PDA (an iPaq 2210 running Pocket Windows) and I'll send this file back (on a compact flash card) with her to post as soon as she can. Well one little victory to report, I've gained my "walking licence" so I don't have to get a nurse to follow me around before l go anywhere - I can now walk for exercise (and practice), rather than just to go to the loo. I've even been promised a short walk outside tomorrow. I've been doing physio on my arm this morning and I'm getting more strenght in it, but still no movement in the wrist and hand. Still, I'll keep trying - I want to play that guitar again some day - even if Breezy and some others might object to me usinng the word "again". PDA permitting, I'll try and write something each day and get Linda to post it when she gets the chance. Dave |

Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 14 Dec 04 - 10:24 AM Just an idea, but if Nurse Ratchett and Avril Betts where to supervise his recouperation they could walk a few paces in front of him, he'd soon be galloping along like a young colt colt ? ........... is that the correct spelling ? |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Essex Girl Date: 14 Dec 04 - 09:50 AM Now he's walking alone they will probably let him out for Christmas. Weather permitting he is being allowed outside tomorrow and depending on his progress he might only have to go back on a daily basis, but we are not getting our hopes up yet. Linda |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Dead Horse Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:54 PM Is Dave gonna pull a cracker, or will they kick him out for Xmas? |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Dipsodeb Date: 13 Dec 04 - 07:44 AM Hiya Linda it's great to hear that Dave is doing well give him our love.((X)) and I believe a HAPPY BIRTHDAY is in order for you but unfortunately not quite as happy as it should have been! but anyway best wishes an hugs from us all at the TB anyway ((X)) ~Debs~ |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: freda underhill Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:58 AM if you can give detailed instructions about transfering data from pdas to computers, well, you're doing pretty well. good luck, Dave, keep at it. non hospitalum bureabumdum carborundum as they say. (don't let the hospital bureaucrats get you down!) freda (and as for yoouuu, mr giok.) |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Essex Girl Date: 13 Dec 04 - 06:31 AM Dave has just rung to say that he has his 'walking licence', which means he will be able to move around the ward on his own and so build up his mobility. The staff are very pleased with his progress. Noreen, a PDA is a pocket computer, great for storing addresses, telephone numbers, songs etc. (You can also play games!!!)You can transfer all information between a PC and PDA, which I managed to do after detailed instructions from Dave. |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: John MacKenzie Date: 13 Dec 04 - 05:40 AM It's a thing you put batteries in Noreen, LTS has one called a Rabbit I believe ;~) Giok [Now I'm really in trouble; were's me coat?] |

Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: catspaw49 Date: 12 Dec 04 - 07:35 PM HEY!! Sounds like some real progress!!! Remember you'll hit plateaus for a bit so don't get worried.....just keep working. Knowing you Dave, I am surprised they would give you a stick of any sort!!! Should someone warn them to be nice to you when you have stick in hand??? BTW, since the two outside legs are working better don't forget to take some time to get the middle one back in shape as well(:<)) Spaw |

Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Dave Bryant Date: 12 Dec 04 - 03:06 PM Hello, this is Dave - I've entered this on my PDA at the hospital - Linda's going to try and post it later tonight. Thank you all for your best wishes, you've all been wonderful. My right leg is working much better and I can get around with a stick, with a member of staff in tow - they may let me go solo soon. I have limited movement in my right shoulder and a little in the forearm, but my hand is still completely paralyzed. PS from Essex Girl. Dave would like to have posted more but his PDA ran out of power and he can't charge it up in hospital. I'll take it back tomorrow and he can compose some more |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Tobyjug Date: 12 Dec 04 - 10:55 AM Just became mudcat aware and sorry to hear about Dave's condition. If I remember him well, it was as someone who won't take things lying down. Get fully fit soon, you old folker. From another old folker, who 'used to be your boss'. |

We will probably know more after the medical team 'conference' on Tuesday. If anyone is in our area in the days following Christmas, please drop in and have a drink. (He might not be able to but we can)!!!!! Linda |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: gnu2 Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:23 AM Give 'er some Dave !!! |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: GUEST,Raggytash Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:02 AM Just spoken to Dave, he seems in good spirits, sadly not he alcoholic one's. Apparently he has to squeeze oranges as part of his physio to strengthen his grip, now his nurse is nicely rounded in certain departments ........ guess what Dave is thinking about squeezing ! Hope's to be out over Christmas and is determined to be bloody minded about a full recovery |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: YorkshireYankee Date: 09 Dec 04 - 08:59 PM Truly encouraging to hear he's made such good progress. I think that really is an extremely quick rate of recovery, so fingers crossed it continues & you two get to spend Christmas at home together. Sounds like before too long he may be taking it upon himself to entertain the rest of the folks in the ward...! |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: breezy Date: 09 Dec 04 - 03:48 PM All the best. Sounds like he's making good early progress. Can we have his guitar for a raffle prize? 'He was the tenor section' I like that, and all before G4 came into view. And I've resisted being rude about him. So far. Look , no hi-jack -out of respect. He can get on with cutting his own CD albums of songs he knows, he's got to produce 21 albums with 14 songs on each to beat my total, that'll give him something to do in the new year. Unless he's got something better to do!, nah not for a while. Good wishes Linda |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Dec 04 - 03:46 PM This does sound like pretty rapid progress, as these things go (though I don't imagine he'd feel it that way). Incidentally, would it be the left or the right arm that is affected? |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: SINSULL Date: 09 Dec 04 - 03:15 PM Impatience is the first sign that he is feeling better. Good news. Merry Christmas to you both! SINS |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Dec 04 - 01:58 PM It should be up in the music section - but if it encourages a few people to stop being all hoity-toity about coming down "below the line" that'll be a good thing. |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Scooby Doo Date: 09 Dec 04 - 01:33 PM Great news Linda to have Dave home soon.Give him my regards and we will see you hopfully at Miskin or somewhere later in the year. Please remember to look after yourself too. Love Yas |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 09 Dec 04 - 08:38 AM Best wishes, Dave. Get well soon! Glad to hear the voice is unaffected. My fondest memory is from the early days of the Thomas Clark Quire when Dave WAS the tenor section! Couldn't hear what line we basses were supposed to be singing with him in full flow, at any rate! |
Subject: RE: Dave Bryant - Illness From: Bassic Date: 09 Dec 04 - 08:21 AM Thats GOOD progress Linda! Even in the last couple of days......a little shrug of the shoulder on Monday and now down to the elbow!:-) Give him my best and same to you. Great news that xmas might be at home. Will do my best to call again next time I get down to London. And tell Dave to start being a patient patient!! ;-) |
