Subject: Looking for lyrics to
From: Crystal Patterson

I'm looking for the words to Kentucky Girl. I'm not looking for Harris's Blue Kentucky Girl. The chorus goes something like this: Kentucky Girl, are you lonesome tonight? Kentucky Girl, do you miss me? Does the moon still shine on the bluegrass so bright? Like it did on the night I first kissed you?

Can anyone help me????

KENTUCKY GIRL
Charlie Moore

CHORUS: Kentucky girl, are you lonesome tonight?
Kentucky girl, do you miss me?
Does that old moon shine on the bluegrass as bright
As it did on night you first kissed me?

1. In a valley 'neath the mountains so high,
The sweetest place in all the world,
In a cabin with the vines o'er the door,
That's where I left my Kentucky girl.

2. I'm far away from old Kentucky tonight,
And the blue-eyed girl that I love so;
But I'm heading home in the silv'ry moonlight.
With open arms, she waits, I know.

[According to allmusic.com, this has been recorded by Thunder Mountain Bluegrass, Larry Sparks, and Mike Nadolson.]

No, she probably won't come back - but answering song requests benefits ALL of us. Some people get cohncerned when we answer a request and the requester doesn't come back to offer thanks. Most visitors have trouble finding their way around, and they may not find our responses - but the responses are of value to all of us.

I answer requests like this because I figure I'm helping to build the world's largest database of "folk" songs (whatever that means) and that's reward enough for me.

Who knows? Someone might search for it in the future and find it here. If they don't post a message, we'll never know, but I figure it probably happens a lot, judging from the number of times people DO refresh old threads and say "Thanks! I've been looking for this for years!"

To see some surprising examples of how often outsiders (that is, people who are not regular Mudcatters) look for lyrics and find them here, see the threads Lyr Req: Oh, I was born... (Lunatic's Lullaby) and Lyr Req: there once was a silver grey fox. Most of the postings are by GUESTS.
