Subject: Spotlight: MGAS St Albans UK 5th December From: My guru always said Date: 30 Nov 04 - 01:44 PM Someone said 'you're doing a Spotlight Gig on Sunday 5th December at the St Albans Spotlight Club at the British Legion in (guess where) St Albans so you'd better start a thread!' So here it is & it's probably a good idea too otherwise I'll be singing on my own again....... Hopefully whoever can come along will enjoy the songs I plan to sing, it'll be an interesting mixture of styles and stories. I'll enjoy it anyway, it looks like a good weekend for singing *smile* |

Subject: RE: Spotlight: MGAS St Albans UK 5th Decembe From: George Papavgeris Date: 01 Dec 04 - 03:47 AM Or as Lizzie from Sidmouth might have said: YES!!!! At long last:-) :-)!!! This is going to be better than SHOW OF HANDS!!!PLUS we get to sleep on the beach!(Now here's a challenge) Word has it that Thaney might be making an appearance, as well as Merry Mac (Mary Mac? Dairy snack?). And if it's raining we might hear the pitter patter. If only we could get Comanderia at the Legion... |

Subject: RE: Spotlight: MGAS St Albans UK 5th Decembe From: Ross Date: 01 Dec 04 - 02:59 PM Hi JB - not sure of format on Saturday as 'Martin from Barton' is running the show/MC and all - hopefully he will see this thread and let you know - it should be favourable as he is going to St Albans on Sunday FAB Lady Hilary |

Subject: RE: Spotlight: MGAS St Albans UK 5th Decembe From: The Unicorn Man Date: 01 Dec 04 - 03:57 PM Hello I have seen this thread. Format is one big singaround when it is your turn you can do what you like, people can join in, but it will only be one song per person and it goes round to the next person. Later on how ever we may need spiceing up but I just can't tell. |

Subject: RE: Spotlight: MGAS St Albans UK 5th Decembe From: My guru always said Date: 06 Dec 04 - 01:48 PM Well I had a Fabulous evening, thoroughly enjoyed myself!!! Getting there was tricky as an accident on the road stopped me for well over an hour & as I was late already (having planned to arrive early) it was all a bit of a panic. But I got there just in the nick of time & sang most of the songs I'd planned on doing. Having cut down on the introductions I do feel a touch guilty, so here's the list: The Weaver & the Factory Maid - Trad (?) arrrangement by Steeleye Span The Four Loom Weaver - Trad (?) The Rain is Falling - with Author George Papavgeris (our own El Greko) accompanying Thaney - Karine Polwart (with El Greko singing harmony) The Dead Knight Behind the Hedge - Jon Heslop Memory - George Papavgeris, El Greko (very nervously as it was the first real attempt at singing it, having practised at the Black Lion, Plaistow session earlier in the day) The Dutchman - Michael Smith (ably accompanied by Breezy with a couple of glitches as it was only the second time we'd tried this one) Caledonia - Dougie MacLean (even more ably accompanied by Breezy) Mary Mack - Trad, from the singing of Jake Mitchell of Peterhead Special thanks go to Breezy & El Greko for accompanying me & to El Greko for allowing me to sing his songs - they're just Wonderful!!! Missed most of the floorspots (Sorry Cllr, would have loved to join in with your Gaudete), but heard the Singing Referree do his new song The Hairy One (?) (about Breezy obviously) & also Ross & Martin from Barton doing Ross's Run to the Sea & Martin's Ring a Ring A Roses (?). Not to mention Moses & the Singing Referree doing a wonderful version of The Briar & the Rose. Thanks too to Moses for a Delicious Birthday Cake - chocolate, of course & beautifully marbled! Breezy: that wasn't a dress by the way, it was a top & trousers, but I noticed you didn't look past the bust-line *giggle* Lovely to see everyone at St Albans again & Thanks again Cllr for Birthday Chocolate covered Port - Marvellous!!! |
