Subject: RE: Chord Req: Minor chords in open tunings? From: Peace Date: 30 Nov 04 - 04:20 PM Recall that in a minor chord, the thing that makes it minor is the flatted 3rd. If you need that explained, let me know. Bruce |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Minor chords in open tunings? From: Peace Date: 30 Nov 04 - 05:40 PM Is that the tuning you're using? If so, I will take you through the steps to make Bm and Em. If not, what are the notes your guitar IS tuned to and we can go from there. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Minor chords in open tunings? From: Nick Date: 01 Dec 04 - 04:56 AM From bottom Em - 222122 or x75575 Bm - (0)20020 or x20020 or 999899 Chords in different tunings - this site is one example of working them out, there is a better one that has been mentioned before on mudcat. Or... If you draw yourself a similar chart with tuning across top and frets down side and fill in the notes you can work out any chord in ANY tuning - as long as you understand how major/minor etc chords are constructed/what notes are in them D A D F# A D 1 G 2 E B E B E 3 4 B 5 G G G 6 7 E E 8 9 B B E B Depends how prehensile you are as to how many different ways you can find to play the chord and what you leave in or leave out - eg 222422 would work but leaves out the thir o sounds 'ambiguous'; 225422 is a bigger stretch but ok; 222425 is simlar; x7542x is just about impossible for someone with hands my size. Hope that makes some sense |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Minor chords in open tunings? From: Peter T. Date: 01 Dec 04 - 10:47 AM Keep in mind that with barres you can move those minor chords up all the way. I occasionally play in G in D tuning, just to be perverse (the D is the open strings, naturally). yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Minor chords in open tunings? From: GUEST,Brendy Date: 02 Dec 04 - 12:10 AM There's a nifty little programme here: Guitar-Pro.com that has as part ot it's package, a chord finder. It'll translate MIDI into tab and notation for you, and do all sorts of tricks like that.... .... I'm sure I have a serial number for it around here, somewhere.... B. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Minor chords in open tunings? From: GUEST,Park Date: 03 Dec 04 - 01:25 PM The DADF#AD is an OK tuning but you will always be playing in D Major and having to adjust for a minor key. I use DADGAD a lot. IT give you more options in my opinion and in its most basic position you are in D. Not major or minor because there is no third. You can esily add a third to suit your key. Minor and Major shapes are only a one finger adjustment. You also have the option for some really great chord scales that can really spice up your playing. It lends itself well to finger styles or picked styles. I've played alot of tunings and it has been one of the simplest and most versitile I have used. |
