Subject: Lyr Req: I Want to Shoot Me a Milkman From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 01 Dec 04 - 06:43 AM Possibly by Steve Tilston. I recall Tim Pinton singing it at Fleet FC about 20 years ago. Can't seem to find it on any album notes or via Google. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Want to Shoot Me a Milkman From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 01 Dec 04 - 09:37 AM Is this an example of "going postal"? Why "postal" anyway? Are all US postal employees as nutty as Cliuff Clavin in "Cheers"? Do they really have a higher percentage of "gun rage" perpetrators than the general public? RtS (Just askin') |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: I Want to Shoot Me a Milkman From: GUEST,TIM PINTON Date: 31 Mar 12 - 12:38 PM I did sing the song at Fleet FC, solo and with the band "Toffs". The song was by John Bryant and was on his album which I bought I think about 35-40 years ago. He played at Folk Clubs, nice singer and guitarist and always great songs including "Rock and Roll Star" and "Woodbine Annie". Tim |
Subject: Lyr Add: MILKMAN (John Bryant) From: GUEST,TIM PINTON Date: 31 Mar 12 - 01:02 PM This is the lyrics I sang, may not be exactly the same as the original When I got home just yesterday, found a note left on my bed. It said: 'I've taken all your money, friend, and I've smoked all your cigarettes. 'When I knocked, the door was opened by pretty eyes of blue. And I must admit, I liked the look of it, so I stole your woman too. 'Well, thank you, friend,' the letter said, 'and I've got to complement your taste. I found your rye and I drank it dry; it was too damned good to waste. 'When I knocked, I said, "Good morning," like milkman often do, And a voice replied: "Honey, come inside," so I stole your woman too.' I'm going to shoot me a milkman With his voice as smooth as silk I'm going to shoot me a milkman Took my woman and forgot my milk. [Instrumental verse followed by:] I don't care if he takes my wine, And my woman don't back, But I'll shoot that bum if my milk don't come. I could never take my coffee black. So I'm going etc..... Incidentally the Fleet Club closed but then a revived version was at the Windmill Ewshot for many years, recently moved to The Old Ford at Farnborough which was where the Farnborough FC was in the 1960's.
