Pete, is it the George Strait Song (click) you're looking for?

You will find the words to the one my dad knew, posted by Bert, in this thread: CLICK HERE. It is not the Geo. Strait one.

The definitive version of this song, from my point of view was Clancy Hayes on vocals with Bob Scobey and His Frisco Jazz Band..

Nina Russell was an old African-American woman who used to play jazz piano with the likes of Earl Hines and others around Chicago. I met her when she was living in Kalispell,Montana and she used to play in a bookstore in Big Fork on Sunday afternoons, hosting a singalong. She had song lists for everyone to look at, and noticing ACE IN THE HOLE on the list, I requested that she play it. After she finished she told a story about playing in a club around Chicago, owned by Capone. When the members of a rival gang came in, one of the others asked for that particular song to be dedicated to the other fellows.
Shooting broke out, everybody who wasn't involved hit the floor, or headed for the door. She didn't realize when she started to play the tune that it was an insult!
By the way, my favorite version is the one by Glenn Ohrlin, I don't know if he ever recorded it.

Thanks katlaughing. That was the song, and thanks Mark Ross for the background info. Any one got the RIGHT chords? Any key will do.
Pete.

You are most welcome. I don't know chords from adam but have you checked the ones in THIS THREAD?

You might also go through what the Record Lady has at her site. She takes request and as I recall, this song may be one she has or had added. If so, maybe you could pick out the chords from playing her recording of it?

All the best,

kat

I just noticed that the Gb chord in the lyrics and chords to Ace in the Hole should actually be listed as a G#

sorry.
