I posted a thread earlier on this, but it got me nada so let us try something else!

I'm interested in quite a few of the tunes on AM's disc. The one I'm most eager to find is called "Sad Wedding Day", which according to the liner notes is traditional, and says something about the tune of Barbara Allen. I've heard Barbara Allen and it's not the same tune, though it might be loosely derived from it I suppose. I'm most interested in the lyric, though if anyone has the chords I'm not going to say no thanks. Other AM stuff is also welcome. Thanks. BB

Do you have any idea how many variations of Barbara Allen there are? The tune could be just about anything. Finding the tune the song comes from would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

Do have any of the lyrics to help with a search? Even a few words might help.

Moira

Yes, I realize these tunes have variations galore. I've checked the ones on the Mudcat archive and none of them fit. The lyric on MacIsaac's cd is in Gaelic, but I gather from the notes included that the lyrics were added by Mary Jane Lamond. The story line is pretty typical of this sort of song;"If your fiance was slaughtered on that oh so special day you'd be upset too." Cryptic or what? I mean that could describe dozens of songs, right?

I guess what I'm wondering is if there is a traditional lyric in English that fits the tune. I guess I could try some lyrics to Barbara Allen and see if they fit this particular tune. Anyhoo, if you have any ideas, thanks.BB

I think I have heard that song elsewhere. Isn't it Irish? Yes, the tune doesn't sound much like Barbara Allen. There are many different lyrics to Barbara Allen but any I've heard seem to be to the same tune.

Would it be a version of "She Moved Through The Fair"?

Tim Thanks so much for the suggestion. You are absolutely right; that's the tune and the lyric to "She Moved..." is just great. Needless to say I'm impressed. BB

The lyrics to the song were written by Mary Jane Lomond.
