Subject: Guide Cats for Xmas From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Dec 04 - 01:10 PM This is a blatant commercial plug - for a very good cause. Remember all the previous discussions of the Guide Cats CD (which I lawyered pro bono, MG if you are out there)? If there is a mudelf about, could we please have a table at the head of this thread about previous mentions of BCAB (the British Computer Association of the Blind, the registered charity behind this? Thanks to Clive Lever (Wild Rover) and Don Thompson (WYZIWIG), and the wonderful wonderful Les Barker poems on the Guide Cats CD (free use on the CD thanks to Les) and the many celebrities who gave their time and performances for nothing in a good cause. Oh, and a brief mention to one famous naturalist who was the ONLY celebrity approached to be less than 100 percent supportive. His sense of humour failure meant the CD did not have a rendition of Spot the Zebra. Perhaps he lost his sense of humour when his brother got the big K the naturalist was expecting, but no names no packdrill. He just thought it wasn't funny. Sad man. The others of you who have already heard the CD will know it is two hours or more of side-splitting humour - and ideal Xmas present for all those who need a laugh in their lives - and the Xmas special offer is too good to miss. My next post will be a paste of a special message from David Boden of BCAB. Please support generously. |
Subject: RE: Guide Cats for Xmas From: Richard Bridge Date: 04 Dec 04 - 01:11 PM Here is the message: - "Les Barker double CD from just £5 IDEAL CHRISTMAS GIFT 34 read poems and 6 set to music all by the world renowned poet Les Barker. Ideal for anyone liking the poetry of Pam Ayres, Spike Milligan, Marriott Edgar (Stanley Holloway) and Edward Lear as the style of these poets can all be found on this CD. The profit generated by the sale of the CD will help the British Computer Association of the Blind pay for the running of short courses which will enable visually-impaired people to use their computers more effectively, leading to a much more independent and fulfilled life. Single copies of the CD can be obtained for £12 by post via the sending of a cheque or by credit card payment (please see www.bcab.org.uk for full details). Subject: RE: Guide Cats for Xmas From: GUEST,wildrover Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:07 PM If anyone on Mudcat decides to buy bulk copies of the CD, please consider two good uses to which you can put your multiple copies: 1. The obvious at this time of year: buy them for your mad friends for Christmas. It's better than getting them the three esses: Soap, Socks or Sod all. 2. If you support another charity, you can buy at discount and flog at full price, thus raising funds for both BCAB and your own pet charity. Since we sold the first copy in July 2003, the CD has so far raised over £17,000 for the BCAB Project which David Boden's message outlines...That's enough to warrant the production of a follow-up CD, which will come out next Summer. If you know any celebs whom you think would be likely to want to contribute a track, please email me at: clivelever@lineone.net. Indeed, if you are a celeb, a big folk name in disguise, I'd be particularly interested to hear from you. Especially if you, or someone close to you is called Waterson! (smile) Cheers, W R |
