Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Who was the apple of my eye nobody but e From: GUEST,Peter Fitz Date: 07 Dec 04 - 08:03 PM Try "Eileen Og," easy enough to find in Digital. There is a line in that goes: "Of my eye sure Eileen was the apple" - if my memory serves me right. |

Subject: RE: Req: Who was the apple of my eye nobody but elsie From: GUEST,MCP Date: 12 Dec 04 - 07:24 PM Mary - the title "Nobody Else But Elsie" rang a bell but that's all. I can't find the words for it on a quick search, but you can find that it was written by Archie Gottler (1896 - 1959) (see Parlor Songs (2/3 way down page) for a brief biog and a reference to the song with date unknown). There's a sheet music copy for sale with at The Sheet Music Warehouse - Nobody Else But Elsie (£7), dated 1932. There is a song at Levy called Elsie From Chelsea with the phrase "there's nobody elsie, but I don't think that's what you're looking for. Mick |
Subject: RE: Req: Who was the apple of my eye nobody but elsie From: Jim Dixon Date: 13 Dec 04 - 10:22 AM NOBODY ELSE BUT ELSIE was used in the musical film "I Surrender Dear" in 1948. I don't think it was necessarily written for the film, though. TV Guide attributes the song to Allie Wrubel—incorrectly, I suspect, because it isn't mentioned on other Allie Wrubel websites. NOBODY ELSE BUT ELSIE appears on the album Underneath the Arches by Henry Hall. That page is supposed to have sound samples, but I couldn't get them to play. The Sheetmusic Warehouse lists it, and attributes it to Archie Gottler, Irving Kahal, and James V Monaco. |
Subject: Lyr Add: NOBODY ELSE BUT ELSIE From: Jim Dixon Date: 12 Jan 12 - 01:25 AM NOBODY ELSE BUT ELSIE Words and music by Archie Gottler, Irving Kabul and James V. Monaco, ©1932. As sung by Henry Hall & The BBC Dance Orchestra on "It's Just Time for Dancing" (2011) Who puts the rainbow in the sky After the raindrops say goodbye? Who is the apple of my eye? Nobody else but Elsie! Who has me gazing at the moon, Singing a sentimental tune? Who makes December seem like June? Nobody else but Elsie! When she's in my arms, it's perfect bliss. How can I resist her smile? She knows how to make a goodnight kiss Last the longest while. Who is a million miles above Ev'ryone else they've written of? Who glorifies that thing called love? Nobody else but Elsie! |
