In fairness, his mother was a harper, so he probably had it from her. Stylistically it's not far before his time, as the song is so full of decoration it's tight to time.

Niel (note spelling) Gow didn't write Drunk at Night and Dry in the Morning, though he did print it in the third volume of Gow's Repository of the Dance Music of Scotland (c.1806, p. 77). It may actually have started out as a Northern English tune, though it seems also to have been claimed as Irish. All three nations suffer the same symptoms after a good night out, after all.

"Ossian" - "Dove Across The Water". Iona IR004.
I think it is also on a compilation "Best Of Ossian" or something similar. You could very probably get it from "Foot Stompin", Simon Thoumire's website.
The music for it is in "The Gow Collection Of Scottish Dance Music".
Composed by Neil Gow, it's in the key of "A" in the book, but "Ossian" played it in "G", which was better for the flute.

Probably silly to start this thread now, since I will be out of town for a few days, but I'm eager to start the search.

The tune is one of my favorites and I know that William Jackson recorded it (with Ossian ?) but it was a long time ago and I don't have the record. Would love to get the CD. Does anyone know what album it is on?
Among other things I have some music buddies and I want them to learn it, and I want them to hear that version.
