Subject: Blind Boys of Alabama on PBS From: PoppaGator Date: 09 Dec 04 - 08:17 PM I've been watching/listening for about 10 minutes. It's a "Christmas special" conceret filmed live in New York, and is on our local PBS TV station as part of fund-drive programming (I think). Hopefully, that means that it *may* be aired at different times and on different days on other PBS outlets. Keep an eye on your local listings and you might get a chance to see it (in the US, of course). One of the all time great gospel "quartets," featuring the amazing Clarence Fountain. What more can I say? Back to the living room! |

Subject: RE: Blind Boys of Alabama on PBS From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 09 Dec 04 - 08:48 PM Hey Poppa! My wife, Joe(the bass singer with the Gospel Messengers) and his wife and I went to hear that concert in New Haven last Christmas.. a couple of days before or after the one they did in New York City. It was a truly magnificence concert. I'll have to try to catch it on PBS. Jerry |

Subject: RE: Blind Boys of Alabama on PBS From: PoppaGator Date: 10 Dec 04 - 01:00 PM The guests who joined in for one song or so apiece included Aaron Neville, Mavis Staples, Charley Musselwhite, Robert Randolph (of "Sacred Steel" fame), Chrissy Hynde (?!), and others who I've either forgotten (since last night) or didn't recognize. Also, playing organ for the whole gig was the youngish white funk/rock star Medjeski (sorry, not sure either of the spelling *or* of his first name.) The telecast did not include the whole concert. The PBS fundraisers were hawking a video (VHS or DVD, your choice) including several more selections, both by the Blind Boys by themselves and also featuring more celebrity guests not shown on the broadcast. Don't know whether the video (or the CD) of this concert (entitled "Go Tell It on the Mountain") is available anywhere except by contributing $150+ to your local PBS station. |

Subject: RE: Blind Boys of Alabama on PBS From: PoppaGator Date: 10 Dec 04 - 02:10 PM I could hear from the next room, and only missed about one half of one song while posting... I do hope there will be more opportunities to see this between now and Christmas. |
