Subject: RE: Grammy Awards for Folk, Blues From: GUEST,Art Thieme Date: 10 Dec 04 - 12:27 PM And, please, let's not forget that CATHY FINK and MACY MARXER who won a Grammy last year, were nominated this year for producing the tribute CD to a great folksinger and performer for children, ELLA JENKINS. Ella turned 80 this year and she has exhibited no signs of slowing down. The CD is called ELLABRATION !! and it is on Smnithsonian Folkways SFW CD 45059 www.FOLKWAYS.SI.EDU All the songs are from the long song list of Ella Jenkins. The performers are Red Grammer (formerly of the Limelighters), Tom Chapin, Cathy and Marcy, Tom Paxton, Bill Harley, Mariachi Los Camperos (a great track), John McCutcheon, Michele Valeri, Pete Seeger, Sweet Honey In The Rock, Mike Stein and Riders In The Sky. This is just a wonderful album. Art Thieme |

Subject: RE: Grammy Awards for Folk, Blues From: PoppaGator Date: 10 Dec 04 - 12:47 PM I'm pretty sure that Pinetop Perkins is in his 90s, trumping both Rosalie and Ella. I saw/heard him this past April (as one of many all-star guests at the WWOZ "Piano Night" benefit during JazzFest), and he's still a pretty energetic performer, just a delight to see. |

Subject: RE: Grammy Awards for Folk, Blues From: Rapparee Date: 10 Dec 04 - 01:08 PM I have to admit that I have emailed a purchase order for all of the recordings I posted above and more to Dick Greenhaus.... Now, that would be a way to support the 'Cat -- get your local PL (which probably has more money that you do) to purchase stuff from Camsco. You'd be doing the 'Cat and Dick a favor, and helping to evangalize good music at the same time! |
