Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: leeneia Date: 27 Jan 21 - 09:22 PM I had to do some hand sewing, so I put the phone on Speaker and called up two women who live alone and need company. We yakked and yakked, and I got the project done. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: keberoxu Date: 27 Jan 21 - 08:57 PM They finished the jigsaw puzzle quickly here; it was of candy bars or rather of their colorful wrappers. I think this residence has some more challenging jigsaw puzzles to be done, though. |

Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: leeneia Date: 24 Jan 21 - 04:00 PM I've started playing my fretless dulcimer again. Two friends came for a visit, and I played two Praetorius dance pieces for them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Mrrzy Date: 24 Jan 21 - 09:20 AM What constitutes dreary has mutated, for me, I was noticing. Used to be dreary meant weather I would rather shelter from than be out in. Now I don't go out in any weather if I can help it, so those days of [mostly] cold rain are comforting now, as they lift the feeling of confinement and shade it into a feeling of comfortable refuge. Ah, the comfort of horrible weather. Dreary? That is being stuck inside on a sunny, warm day. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Jos Date: 24 Jan 21 - 04:48 AM Someone early in the thread seems to think 'dreary days' means 'rainy days' - not the same thing at all. Here, it has been snowing for an hour and the garden is looking very pretty, especially my Christmas tree, which is back outside until next December. The suggestions for making soup are perfect. But first, some decent coffee |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: BobL Date: 24 Jan 21 - 03:04 AM I've dug out some old jobs that I'd given up on as I wasn't getting anywhere with them. I'm still not getting anywhere with them. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: keberoxu Date: 23 Jan 21 - 09:34 PM well, there have been so many shut-in days during a pandemic lockdown that this seemed a good thread to refresh. Anybody else breaking out the jigsaw puzzles? Where I'm staying, there's a table in a common area with puzzle pieces being slowly put together over time, just sitting there the rest of the time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: gnu Date: 11 Dec 04 - 08:42 AM Except for driving anywhere it sounds like rainy days are fine for most of you. I've got the wood stove, tea and Cafe covered but it's going to be a busy day accomplishing all the rest of those notions!!! AND, today, there's NFL football! on a Saturday! To think I was sad because I couldn't get up country to my camp when there's so much to do here. I hope the mice don't get lonely up country... there's no TV, they don't know anything about the wood stove (except those that didn't get the cheese), most don't read, I drank all the booze, they can't bake anything because they crapped in the bake goods,... enough. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 11 Dec 04 - 08:20 AM Go to the Mudcat, while searching Mudcat threads... Come to think of it, I tend to do that on many days.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Stilly River Sage Date: 10 Dec 04 - 09:52 PM In cold weather I always crave a hot soak in the tub in the evening. Baking, making soup, burning good fragrant candles. My fireplace doesn't draw very well, so I'm more likely to set candles in there to burn (they look good through the glass) than I am to burn an actual log. An evening spent sewing with music or watching a movie with cats curled up nearby is nice. Reading a good book (with cats, etc.) SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 10 Dec 04 - 09:26 PM On cold, wet, rainy, gray days I like to drive to New Orleans. It'll probably be just as cold, wet, rainy and gray there, but the food's a lot better. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Rapparee Date: 10 Dec 04 - 09:13 PM Me too, all of the above -- but I'm usually at (shudder!) work. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Sorcha Date: 10 Dec 04 - 07:30 PM Bake. Fireplace. Read. Snuggle. All of the above. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Ebbie Date: 10 Dec 04 - 07:17 PM Consult the Mudcat. (And in Juneau, Alaska, we get a LOT of chill rainy days. ;) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: number 6 Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:31 PM Drink some Jameson's and listen to some old Procal Harum |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: wysiwyg Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:28 PM Reading in bed, surrounded by pillows and cats. Decadent reading, too-- romance novels, gory mysteries, silly adventure-hero yarns, etc. Even better, listening to old radio programs from OTR's free MP3 download page. In the dark of course. ~Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: LilyFestre Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:14 PM Now only if my snugglebunny was here at the moment, I think your idea is a fine one Bobert!!!! Does she like to stick her icy cold toes behind your knees? I love to do that and watch him squirm!!!!! *Evil Grin* Michelle |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Bobert Date: 10 Dec 04 - 06:04 PM Crank up the wood stove in the kitchen, brew up some fine Antigua coffee and head back to bed with the P-Vine fir a little snuggling... Yup, bring them days on... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Wesley S Date: 10 Dec 04 - 05:58 PM And a nice cup of exotic coffee while you're cooking would hit the spot. If the weather is as nasty as you say it is - put on some reggae music to warm up your dancin' feet. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: LilyFestre Date: 10 Dec 04 - 05:50 PM Hmmm...nope. But I do make soup...tonight it's gonna be garlic chicken vegetable with tomatoes, onions, potatoes, carrots, cabbage and parsnips....yep...soup to warm up the old bones. Mabye I'll make up a batch of gingerbread too.....yeah...warm gingerbread...now we're talking! :) Michelle |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: PoppaGator Date: 10 Dec 04 - 05:48 PM Baking is definitely a good idea. Toll House cookies? Gingerbread men? Dark rye bread made with cocoa, beer, and caraway seeds? |
Subject: RE: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: Cluin Date: 10 Dec 04 - 05:36 PM Do you know the Muffin Man? He bakes on dreary days. |
Subject: BS: Favorite Things To Do on Dreary Days From: LilyFestre Date: 10 Dec 04 - 03:15 PM I don't know about the rest of the world but here in North Central Pennsylvania it is a cold, wet, rainy, gray day. I am lucky enough to have the rest of the day off and was planning on doing a day trip...but it's just YUCK outside and so I have decided to stay home, sit by the fire, have myself some hot tea or cocoa and read...maybe even snooze for a bit. I am cold to my bones so playing the fiddle to pass the time isn't going to work right now. How about you? What do you like to do on days such as these? Michelle |
