Subject: RE: VO Fossett (music editor of Stamps-Baxter) From: GUEST,list of songs written by V.O. Fossett Date: 29 Oct 10 - 05:05 PM Is there a list of songs or some published song book that has V.O. Fosset's songs? I am from DEkalb County Alabama and am also interested in his family genealogy. Can you give me information on that or point me in the direction where I might find this information. I have the Fossett family in my lineage and wanted to see if it connects with his. My family lineage includes many who were and some who are still are very into music. My children and I are very into music, as one of my son's is autistic and is very motivated by music and likes to sing. He is practicing to sing at church and we love the songs V.O. Fossett has written. Any information you can give me will be very much appreciated. |
Subject: RE: VO Fossett From: GUEST,Verna Kay Fossett Date: 01 May 10 - 01:57 PM Dad wrote many songs during those years. Several years ago, he was inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. On the inscription, it mentions "I Shall Not Be Moved." Songs would be sent in to him when he was the music editor of Stamps-Baxter Music Publishing Co. located in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas, Tx. Sometimes he would only get a few lines of music (little correct partwriting) and maybe words. He re-wrote, or wrote out the songs. He didn't get the credit then, but more and more people are finding out that he wrote many songs. My mother, Katherine, recently passed away at age 89, in NC. She traveled with him across the country teaching the "singing schools" in churches far and wide. I have precious memories of those days. |
Subject: VO Fossett From: GUEST,Operadoc@adelphia.com Date: 11 Dec 04 - 09:05 AM In an old (1997) thread VO Fossett is mentioned as the composer of "I Shall Not Be Moved". Since he wrote in the 1950's-70's and this tune predates the union change to "We" in the 1930's could he be the arranger? Are there birthdate/etc info for Fossett? I know he was from DeKalb Alabama. |
