I'm hoping 'Catters can help me with info. There was a record company in the 1940s and '50s named Stinson. They recorded various folksingers and other musicians. SOMEONE has bpught their "catalogue"/name/ business. Does anyone have any ideas who? Where the information would be registered/stored? Which gummint entity might be responsible for such knowledge? I would like to explore the possibility of reissuing the album mother did for them, but cannot find any entity with whom to broach the subject. So far have asked Folk Alliance, Library of Congress, Recording Industry Association of America, and one or two others I can't remember just now. Google was no help.(!!!!!!!) Any of you historians have any ideas?? It's springing eternally, in here. Thank you for your time and attention.    Tw

I would suggest that you try some of the big Musicians' Association locals. They will likely be able to direct you.

You might try Collectables Records.

They seem to have acquired a few recordings from the old Stinson catalog.

EUREKA!!!!! (BTW, thank you all very much.) Lib. of Cong. finally sent me a contact, which note I received last night. (Collectables Records is going to be a problem; I can see going into debt - further than I already am.)
For anyone else who may be interested: Stinson was started by Herbert Harris, working in the early days with Moses Asch. There was a breakup of the arrangement. Harris' son inherited, then his granddaughter and her husband. They live in Granada Hills, CA -- Kurtis and Karen Williams. Most of the "records" -- sound, as well as business documentation -- are stored in Karen's mother's house. They are slowly clearing it up (her mom is in a care facility). They will be glad to communicate with anyone and help in matters regarding the Stinson catalogue, but it will take time. (Let me know if anyone wants their mailing address.)

'Catters, I have been spreading the Stinson search question around the universe for several years. I am so relieved. Of course, this means that now I have to think of new questions. Rats -- always something....               Tw

I have an old Stinson lp that is a collection of recordings by Woody Guthrie, Cisco Houston, Leadbelly, Sonny Terry and others. It's on red vinyl.

Way cool.

Jerry,

Please play that translucent red Stinson 10" LP for me... I haven't heard it in 40 years. Could you please post a song list - I only heard it once - FANTASTIC
