Thanks to Rabbi Sol for inviting me to join him for this wonderful concert. They are a very talented group and I enjoyed the show immensely. I had the pleasure of meeting Bill Hahn which made the evening even more special. -LB

And the interesting part is that they are constantly updating the show so that the entire thing does not become a museum piece (albeit a great one). New songs in the style of The Weavers, solos to highlight the individual talents, and, still keeping The Weavers history in front of the audience---HUAC and all.

Now, if only the talented fellow from Canada--Zachary Stevenson--   could bring his Phil Ochs program around it would be a wonderful thing to behold.

Individually each of these artists have many things they do seperately--Martha S. can also--and does-- do cabaret music (along with a wonderful musical sympatico with children), Marc Murphy appears on many recordings (the latest is a wonderful one with Kim & Reggie Harris and Rabbi Kligler), James Durst does many solo performances around the world---and last but not, certainly, least is David Bernz. A private career in another field but the idealistic center and core (along with James D.) of the group. And what a musician.

Yes, it was a great concert & it was fun to reminisce about the old Weavers.

"This group is really great and sounds every bit like the original Weavers."

In my opinion they are very, very close to the Weavers sound when they sing together; however, when they do the solo parts, the voices are obviously different. James Durst does a good approximation of Pete Seeger, with his soft-spoken voice & sometimes he reminds me of Fred Hellerman, as well. Martha Sandifer as Ronnie Gilbert comes off quite good too.

All the musicians are very talented & the show is definitely worth seeing.

It was a great concert. They are very gifted musicians vocally and instrumentally. Their repertoire of Weavers' music is just wonderful. A group to be seen.

A delight to have met my fellow Mudcatters and also to being part of the program that day. And what a great show it was---as can be evinced by the accurate review from Rabbi Sol.

Last Sunday, December 19th I had the pleasure along with my wife, Fay (a/k/a scanner on Mudcat) and Nathan Gross (a/k/a Little Brother on Mudcat) to attend the Work O The Weavers concert at the Orangetown Jewish Center in Orangeburg, N.Y. We met up there with fellow Mudcatter Bill Hahn, co-host of the WFDU Radio program "Traditions". The concert was a huge success with over 400 people in attendance. This group is really great and sounds every bit like the original Weavers. During the intermission and after the show, we had the chance to chat with the performers and purchase their CDs which they all gracoiusly autographed for us. In addition to the original Weavers songs they also added some of their own new material which applies to the present day political situation. Since the concert was held in the main sanctuary of the synagogue the 3 male members of the group were asked to don yarmulkes for the performance but were not required to get circumcised.

For those of you who want to see what I look like, Little Brother who in real life is a professional wedding photographer snapped a photo of Fay and myself together with Bill Hahn during intermission. I e-mailed the photo to Pene Azul as per Joe Offer's instructions. He will hopefully post it HERE with a blue link so everyone can view it.
